Lot of big upsets through the years.
The game today against 10-0 UGa has vibes of our big upset win over 10-0 Penn State to end season at Neyland in 1971. Penn State had won 15 straight games and complaining because they were not ranked #1. They were strong favorites against our 8-2 Vols...
Because the stakes were so high and late in the season…8-0 Vols vs. 8-0 Hogs with Vols having great comeback victory, this is my favorite game I have ever been to in Neyland. And I started going in 1965.
My wife and I were at the 83 game in Birmingham and loved the big upset win. Also attended the 85 win in Birmingham and the 99 win in Tuscaloosa. Almost nothing better than an away victory over Bama. Also went to 87 loss but 3-1 overall in games at Bama pretty good.
GoVols!
UK does view Vols as a big bb rival. I lived in Louisville area during the Earnie and Bernie era; and they hate Tennessee with a passion. While UK has beaten Vols more than any other foe, Vols have also beaten UK far more than any other team.
My wife and I were at all four of the four straight wins over Bama from 1982 thru 1985. 82 was huge in Neyland as it ended a 11 year bad streak. Was Bear’s last year coaching. He died in less than two months after retiring. 83 was big win over Bama as we came from behind in 2nd half to win...
Reggie White is a Vol Legend for both his play at University of Tennessee and in pro football. There is justification for his number being retired and his presence in both Hall of Fames. Was an incredible person with deep faith as well.
At Tennessee he was an outstanding defensive lineman that...
Home and home against Power 5 teams is by far best for season ticket holders. Would a season ticket holder prefer to have a game at Neyland against Austin Peay or UCLA?
The quality of team is obviously important but not same issue.
Speaking as a former 40 year season ticket holder who dropped...
Was at the game with my wife and 7 year old son, our oldest. Was the first bowl game we had ever attended. Our youngest son was born in April 1985 and was with babysitters In New Orleans. What a great win. Most of the talk going in was about Miami potentially winning the NC by beating us...
Our OL unit are unsung heroes of the Bama win. Only gave up one sack and zero hurries. We got 9 hurries on Young. Bama’s freak dl Anderson did nothing. Our guys played lights out.
Attended all these victories in Neyland except 2016 due to back injury. Also in 1970 as student when we beat them 38-7.
My two sons and wives attending this Saturday to see Hooker’s name added to this list.
Interesting Vols have only been favored 7 times over these 32 years and have won 7...
