2024 Transfer Portal Thread

Really want Anderson Jr. just because you can move Boswell to the 2.

Possible future lineup of
PG: Anderson Jr. (Soph)
SG: Boswell (Soph)
SF: Carr (Jr.)
PF: Cade (Jr.)
C: Okpara (Sr) / JP (Jr.)
If Estrella can stretch the floor then I really like okpara and JP on the floor together. Both 6’11 to go along with the rest of our length.

I am sure that the Vols Basketball coaching staff would laugh if they were to take the time to read some of the guesses and opinions on players that we are supposedly getting or even recruiting. I don't know what is truth or what is opinion most of the time. I just want the Vols to sign the best players possible so we can have a chance to win a NCAA Championship! I am like most of you. I Bleed Orange!
Post of the day. Nobody knows what is going on behind the scenes except for Barnes, his staff, and the players being recruited. Everyone else is speculating!

Do teams really have "lineups of the future" anymore? They're becoming increasingly more difficult to predict with the moving around of players. But, yes, that would be awesome and they all developed. That's what was so special about this past team

If we
Um…Boswell might redshirt. We have Mashack at the 3, who will likely start regardless of who else we get. We have Dubar at the 4 if we get no one else. But if we get no one else, Gainey is the 2.

So not only is Lanier the best player of the guys we’re still trying to get, but he’s also at the greatest position of need. Your post makes zero sense on multiple levels.
if we miss out on Tyson/ Milicic are you confident with Cade Phillips getting the start?

I’m NOT saying Lanier will be a player that really want, I’m just saying we probably feel better getting Tyson/Milicic NOW so we don’t sweat getting a 3/4 player later in the portal. I just don’t see Phillips being our starter getting 25 plus minutes. I still think he needs development and come off bench

Nothing new here, but just to declutter and restate:

Tyson to UNC seems inevitable. There’s some friction around how Davis returning/not returning changes the equation, but I don’t see any outcome being likely besides him announcing today/tomorrow to UNC.

Igor is committed to us. I’ve seen people say there are various challenges, ultimatums etc. That doesn’t hold water with anything I’ve heard. He has a student visa and the school is the sponsor. Changing that status take some steps as do some NIL workarounds. It’ll be done soon.

Lanier is very tight with our staff and I’d be surprised if anyone challenges us. I don’t think Maryland is really going to steal him when it’s said and done. I could be wrong. The biggest frustration is that he has gotten some draft grades that are tempting and some people around him have financial incentives to encourage him to ride out the process. Obviously I was glad to see him in the portal with a no contact tag, but that won’t change the timelines or necessarily stop people from working him. Him coming here is much better than a coin flip. It’s the most likely outcome. I just don’t think we like the pace and that could make it difficult.

Christian Anderson is a really interesting prospect, and I’ll be interested to see if that goes smoothly. That one is a bit of a happy accident, but some of our best recruits have been unexpected/opportunistic situations we leapt on. We’ll see. Staff seems pretty giddy about him as of Friday.

We have a few other next wave prospects, but I think staff is being very cautious given the need to stabilize certain key players and positions.

What about the Barnes kid?

Anything on him?

I almost feel bad for Tyson...he's about to go get minimal minutes at UNC and waste a year basically sitting.

I think Cade would get more playing time against teams which have stronger rebounders and better games in the paint.
I like Phillips and think he has a lot of potential. How much he plays may be determined by who else we sign in portal. We get Milicic as expected, then his minutes will be hard to come by. Kinda wish they would have redshirted him this past year.

Is Tucker Anderson still a contingent or he far down in pecking order?

He fits better with with us and the makeup of our roster but his career. I think UNC will limit his role and development especially if RJ returns. Folks on UNC boards don’t even think he would start.

Not getting Tyson obviously sucks, but I’m not shocked we couldn’t overcome the pull to play for his home state. I’m sure he was sold a fancy bill of goods that he’d be a major contributor next year for them, but really he’ll just be a depth piece and if he’s okay with that, then we weren’t going to win out. Oh well. Feels like if he got him we would have come out of this transfer portal season likely batting nearly 1.000 which I guess shouldn’t be expected anyway.

Christian Anderson would likely play this season. Kid is super talented. Good to hear that we feel good about him

I agree. Obviously I don’t have insight into what was said to him in the room, but I know he’s stayed engaged as they shape up who is returning. They’re pitching him everyone this dream team/FF historic NC opportunity angle. I think the case being made that he can be a specialist this year, and a lead piece next year. I would’ve loved to have had his shot, but I’d choose Igor over him if forced.
