TN doesn’t want to or like to take time off the clock. That’s not their identity. And regardless if they go 3 and out or TD, it’s most likely done in less than 2 minutes.
Opponents will counter by chewing the clock up. Georgia averaged 5 minutes per drive!
We lose these games because we run out of time.

Can’t score if you don’t have the ball. A strategy as old as the game itself.

If you score then the other team can't go conservative. This can counter for a bad defense. If the offense can't score then it will stress even a good defense. It is a game strategy that forces a decision on momentum early in the game. We will see many lopsided games with CJH. We will see few games like the Alabama game last year. People are not used to it. People do not like it.

That is a weakness of the offense and why our team is not good playing from behind. Opponents with the lead know the best thing they can do is run clock.

But even then, its not a surefire blueprint. Its a weakness of the offense that is exacerbated when your QB is boom or bust. And with Milton and our banged up receiving corp, we go 3-out alot, especially against good competition.

When the offense is efficient and able to move the ball, the offense will eventually answer and put pressure on the other team to score and not just run clock. But this year we are not responding enough. Our offense simply has not got the job done at all against good SEC opponents. We have averaged under 20 points scored in our games against UF, Texas A&M, Mizzou, Bama, and Georgia. Not good!

This is no secret. Heupels offense is either explosive offensive plays or a complete bust. Saw it over and over this year.

Heupel and staff may learn alot about the skills needed to run this offense. It is a super offense for players and fans and difficult to stop with talented players as in 2022. A mediocre, erratic quarterback cannot use the tempo to sustain drives which adds even more pressure to the defense. Heupel probably is an excellent talent evaluator at qb and simply miscalculated what the upside for Milton was. This team did well to win 7 games and Josh needs to get Nico ready ASAP to regain momentum for 2024.

We don’t execute consistently on offense. Poor pass, drops and penalties kill more drives than the other team does.
This all day. This offense is still nearly impossible to stop when executed. 2nd downs have killed us after incomplete passes on 1st down. Opposing defenses are showing a light box to get Joe to read run. Joe has been deciding too early and right before the snap, the defenses drop 1, sometimes 2, more in the box. Mizzou did this consistently. GA did it consistently too. Gotta see that and adjust. On defense, I know there are injuries on the 2nd and 3rd levels, but those kids look to be playing like they’re afraid to make a mistake instead of running around like their hair is on fire.

If you want to beat Tennessee, shut down their first down play. But as I mentioned we beat ourselves too often with a poor pass, a drop, or a penalty. Last year we finished next to last in penalties; this year we are last. That’s something to work on in the off season.

And if that remains the case, our Defense will continue to be gassed by the 2nd quarter.

the blueprint is simple stop the run, you beat the vols. very easy O to defend if you can man the outside and stop the run.

And since every opponent has the same talent as Georgia, looks like we’re screeed.

Geez folks, where do you come up with this Chicken Little chicken ____?

I do not for a minute think the sky is falling. This program is in better shape than since the early 00s.

If you remember we were using the hurry up offense even when Milton was starting, before he got injured. We all remember the Pittsburg game when JM over threw wide open receivers. Hooker came in and made it work. We even ran it early in this season but by the Florida game we were exposed for not being able to make 1st downs and defenses were able to stop us. It will be interesting to see if CJH tries to run it next year.
