OK, on the other side is North Carolina’s academic fraud where they got no penalties. Also, you have Will Wade at LSU caught cursing outlandishly while admitting he payed his point guard NBA money and he went back coaching and LSU got off free of penalties. The NCAA is basically an unpredictable joke.
You are missing a big part of the UNC case. All students were capable/allowed to sign up for the fake classes. Meaning the athletes did not get a benefit unavailable to the rest of the student body.

And further, this is a perfect storm. Everyone bitches that the NCAA has no backbone and lets all these programs slide - because they have no subpoena power - and it is beyond difficult to prosecute like would normally happen (LSU, UNC, Etc Etc etc) - I can guarantee you they are sick of hearing this - we are a big name program facing 51 - yes - not one Cam Newton Charge - but FIFTY ONE serious allegations. That we’ve admitted to.
They are gonna bury us like we haven’t seen since SMU.
Anybody thinks we are “back” in five - ten years has their head in the sandy beach.

Time to take a break from the crack and Jack.

As someone pointed out, UNC spent $18M in legal fees to basically throw academics under the bus. The NCAA REPORTED them to the academic regulators and UNC has had academic probation issues outstanding and could be in accreditation trouble. Bottom line: UNC values athletics enough, apparently, to screw over academics.

If you'd like UT to follow that model...... that sucks.

Will Wade and LSU are digging in and digging deeper every game he coaches. When it's over, LSU will get their a$$ handed to them and Wade, if he's not doing time, will see a show cause that will end his career.

Again, if you want UT to follow that model.... that sucks.

We've got 50+ violations. They're there. A quote from our Chancellor: “What is so disturbing, as demonstrated by the scope of these actions, is the number of violations and people involved and their efforts to conceal their activities from our compliance staff and from the Athletic department’s leaders."

That's textbook Lack of Institutional Control.

Who cares?

Program had a prior staff playing with fire and got burnt. UT will pay a price. I believe loss of scholarship is harder than missed bowl game. There may be multiple years of sanctions.

Bottom line... fix the internal compliance issues (I trust this has been handled), pay the tab, recruit talent, go win football games.

We are definitely getting both, if UT is smart we will just get out in front of it and give ourselves a 1 year bowl ban and a loss of 9 scholarships over 3 years. Which is why you need to make sure that you nail it with the transfer portal because now that we have signed 9 transfers 2 will count towards the 22' class meaning we can already only sign 23 players next year....but throw in a scholarship penalty of say 3 less and now we can only sign 20 players. So lets hope these coaches can evaluate talent and coach it up!

Buckle up Butter cup....it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

Here's a better question:

Would you rather

A. Take a bowl ban right now for 2021 and that's the only punishment
B. Fight the NCAA until May 2023 but be cleared of all allegations
Option A.

The threat of potential sanctions can be used against us in recruiting worse than the actual penalty.

I think it's given we don't consider a bowl this year. I loathe the idea of dinging ourselves 3 scholarships but you've got a point that getting out in front of it might "buy" mercy from the NCAA and possibly limit it to 2, not 3 years total but a lot depends on the number of athletes that they find were paid, I think.

Also, God Forbid, if they uncover dirt in other sports...... we're getting torched and nothing will help.

We are gonna get the book thrown at us over this. If we were Bama or Georgia or Ohio St then it would be a minor slap on the wrist.

Unlike LSU, the daughter of the NCAA President isnt sleeping with our AD...

Given what we know of when the investigation started and when outside counsel was brought in, does anybody know why we didn't self impose a ban this year? It was a throwaway year anyway, why did we try to hang on to a bid for a 3-7 team when we could have bit the bullet?

I'm not sure what y'all are smoking. For "tattoo-gate" at Ohio State, players getting money and tattoos for free which OSU didn't know about but Coach Tressel did [sound familiar?]....... OSU then decided to play in the 2011 Sugar Bowl after this came out.

OSU got to vacate that season, the Sugar Bowl, the revenue AND a bowl ban the next year (when they were one of the top 5 teams) and 3 years of 3 scholarship reductions (9 total over 3 years).... among other things.

There's no way UT goes near a bowl this year AND no way we don't get scholarship reductions also.

Missouri got a year bowl ban + scholarships + fines for 1 academic tutor doing work for students that the university had no knowledge of and self reported..... no money, just schoolwork, and they squealed on themselves.

It ain't either a bowl or scholarships. It's both.

This👆🏻all day, night, weekend and week long!

bowl ban at this point not sure it would matter really. We definitely need all the scholarships we can get as we are already behind due to so many coaching changes and system changes

I agree somewhat, however, the UT administration has been doing a backstroke on the severity of the violations since that nightmarish press conference. Every time they speak of violations not being life changing to recruits, they take one step closer to paying Pruitt $12 million. The longer it goes on, the worse it is on everyone. We will probably have to pay Pruitt & get penalties due to the ”lack of institutional intelligence “.
