Winston Churchill quote

Don't forget though, from the time Churchill gave that speech in May or June of 1940, the US still wouldn't enter the war as a combatant for about 18 months. Granted, we supplied them through lend lease, but the British Empire was alone in the Western Theater until Pearl Harbor.

Churchill earns any award for biggest "spheres" of the 20th Century IMHO.
The British "Empire" ceased to exist after the First World War.

It was definitely on life support. India, the jewel in the crown, would stick around until 47 or 49 (can't remember which) but your point is well taken.

Since we are discussing WWII this evening, should we be "looking for the next Rommel" to quote a former HC? 😄

Seems appropriate for today. Especially today. Go Vols!!!

"Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy."

"we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender. "

So basically he said to never give in unless it makes sense to give in. Kinda like saying " don't do anything stupid"

Ask him what to do when you have a BB Gun and the opponent has an AK47?

Shoot for the balls?

Luckily for Churchill there was Roosevelt and Eisenhower to give him that type of confidence. England would being speaking German if it wasn’t for the US. Tennessee Vols don’t have a Roosevelt or Eisenhower tonight.

We all could be speaking German
