ESPN recently put on their Gridiron Kings 7-on7 tournament in Orlando and one of the signal callers to make it to Orlando was Edna Karr High School’s Dual-Threat QB Munchie Legaux from New Orleans. VolNation recently caught up with Munchie and his father over the phone to get the latest update on how the event went and how his recruiting process is going right now.
“I did really well down there. It was a nice event to go to. I held my own and showed my abilities to the people there. It was a great experience for me and glad I did it. I learned a lot while there and got better against some good competition,” explained Munchie
While down in Orlando Munchie has come out with a top five and has included some new schools in the mix.
“Right now my top 5 is currently like this: Oregon, Michigan, Tennessee, Baylor, and I’d say Southern Miss. That is in order of my favorites, so I do have Oregon on top,” says Munchie.
Munchie’s father, Delbert Jolla informed VolNation that Tennessee has been a major mover in his son’s top 5.
“Oregon and Tennessee are really recruiting him hard. Tennessee has started to come on strong. They are calling almost every day one way or another to speak to him. They call his coach a lot about trying to find out where Munchie is to see if they could speak with him,” says Jolla.
With Tennessee coming hard VolNation got the low down on what exactly Munchie finds interesting in the Tennessee program.
“Oh I like the fact they are recruiting me harder. I like almost everything about the school. The playing time at Quarterback is a big thing for me as well. There is a lot about the school I like,” says Munchie.
Munchie’s father informed VolNation of his thoughts on Tennessee as well.
“I like the school and I am ok with him going to Tennessee. Whatever choice he makes I am going to support it. Either it be Oregon or Tennessee or any other school is ok. He will most likely have to travel to go to school and that’s ok with us,” informed Jolla.
Jolla informed VolNation a possible visit is in the works to Tennessee but a date hasn’t bee set yet. Oregon will also be getting a visit on August 15th.
Munchie echoed the same statement.
“I will be taking all five of my visits I think. Right now my top 5 or so will be getting the visits. I just need to sit down and figure out the dates,” says Munchie.
While Munchie has official visits on his mind he has something even more important on his mind.
“I want to win that state title. That’s my goal right now. I want to throw for 35 touchdowns and over 2,000 yards. Most importantly however I want to win that title,” said Munchie.
VolNation would like to thank Munchie and Mr. Jolla for their time and for letting VolNation what is going on in his recruiting process. VolNation would like to wish Munchie and his family good luck on his upcoming senior season and the process of choosing his school.
Evaluation: Legaux is an exciting dual-threat quarterback and athlete. He has redeeming, deceptive skills as a passer and is a good enough overall athlete to move to wide receiver if he does not work out under center. He has good height and a lanky, lean frame to grow into. Settles his feet quickly and shows good poise in the pocket. Mechanics need some refinement, but he possesses a quick release, although low, with good wrist snap. Has a whip-like, sidearm delivery that negates his height, but the ball comes out with some pop on underneath and intermediate throws. Shows good zip on shorter throws. Has flashed the ability when his feet are set to make some very difficult throws on the deep comeback, skinny post and downfield vertical routes. Overall accuracy is entirely dependent on his footwork. He will spray the ball around a bit if he is unsettled. Can buy extra time with his feet and ability to feel the pressure, step up and avoid the rush. Shows impressive initial quickness to escape the rush and possesses lanky wiggle in his change-of-direction skills when on the move. Can cut and make people miss and shows good top end speed for the position. Throws the football very well on the run to both sides and has shown the ability to throw off balance when he has to. Legaux is the perfect fit for the shotgun, spread offense where he can use his athleticism both as a passer and runner to be at his best. Overall, Legaux is green as a passer, but shows upside to develop nicely in the right scheme. Good prospect.
2008: Completed 69-percent of his attempts for 1,784 yards, 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Rushed for 435 yards and 10 touchdowns. District Offensive Player of the Year… Cousin of former Miami wide receiver Akieem Jolla… Also plays basketball and runs track… Also recruited by: Tulane, Tulsa, Southern Miss…

They are calling almost every day one way or another to speak to him. They call his coach a lot about trying to find out where Munchie is to see if they could speak with him,” says Jolla.
