vn-logo2The Tennessee Volunteer coaching staff has ties to the west coast across the board. Now the Volunteers are looking to use those ties to pluck talent away from the big schools out west and bring east some west coast flavor. This time they are early in the game as 2011 tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins (Gig Harbor, WA/Gig Harbor) has started to receive attention from Coach Kiffin and his staff. Problem is, other schools have caught onto this talented 2011 tight end as well.

“I actually don‘t have an offer from Tennessee right now, but I do get mail from them on a somewhat regular basis,” said Seferian-Jenkins. “I have so many offers this early I am truly blessed. Right now I have offers from every school in the Pac-10 outside of USC. I also just got offered by Oklahoma and that is a big time school that I am really excited about as well. I also have offers from Florida and Boise State. Right now to be going into my Junior year I am blessed. Any other offer I get is just icing on the cake.”

With so many offers in hand for only being a Junior Seferian-Jenkins spoke about how quickly things have progressed.

“I feel like since summer started things have been going really well and I just can’t believe how many offers I have,” said Seferian-Jenkins. “I have put in a lot of work and effort into getting where I am and it is starting to pay off. I don’t let it get to my head because some people don’t even get one offer let alone one or two going into their Junior year of high school. I just keep working really hard to improve even more because there are some schools right now I get mail here and there from but I want an offer from them because I am interested in them.”

And what might those schools be that this talented 6’8 250 pound bruising tight end want?

“Right now Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss, USC, and LSU are schools I want to here more from,” said Seferian-Jenkins. “I get mail here and there but those schools are some big time schools that I really want to learn more about and speak to the coaching staff. I want offers from those because those schools are where some of the best players play and I want to compete.”

While it sounds like Seferian-Jenkins has a high interest in schools who haven’t offered he did point out things are still early and he is taking an approach to his recruiting where he’s sorting through very school with a fine comb.

“I am totally open right now,” said Seferian-Jenkins. “Its too early to name any favorites right now. I am not afraid to leave the northwest if needed but that isn’t to say there aren’t schools located close to home that could be an awesome fit for me as well. Any school who is interested in me is a school I am interested in. I am looking for a good program football wise. I want to win games. However, maybe more importantly is a school that can also give me a great education. I know I have a chance to maybe play in the NFL, but I also know that chance is small and could change very quickly. I want to have a good background to help me support myself after football is over. School is important to me.”

While Seferian-Jenkins is a top notch player nationally in the 2011 class you can certainly bet the Tennessee coaching staff will try to lure this talented player out of the northwest and down south into the might SEC.

“I love the SEC because they are one of the best conferences in the nation,” said Sefeian-Jenkins. “The fact that Tennessee is such a good school historically and they win in the SEC makes me interested in them. They are a school I am hoping I start to learn more about and hear more from them come September 1st when they can officially offer me and speak to me. I get mail from them here and there but it is a school I am really interested in. I am hoping I can get in touch wit the staff some time shortly and get things going.”

While the 2010 class is shaping up to be a good one make sure to check back with VolNation.com as we track the 2011 with a fine comb and keep you updated on all the news regarding this talented tight end.
