Tennessee has been on fire in the recruiting circuit. The one thing Lane Kiffin has been doing well is recruiting out of state stars to come and play football at Tennessee. Over this past week, Kiffin received commitments by two South Carolina studs, Corey Miller and Brandon Willis. The Tennessee coaching staff is already on a mission to start their 2011 class on the right foot. One of the biggest athletes in the entire nation will be Shon Carson. The 5’8, 184 pound running back already claims some early offers from some major programs. The extremely soft-spoken Carson spoke with VolNation to discuss his recruitment.
“Recruiting is going good,” said Carson. The Palmetto State athlete claims an array of offers including Tennessee, Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, and others. Carson (Lake City H.S/ Scranton S.C) is an absolute stud on the football field, but the running back holds other talents.
“I plan on playing baseball and football in college,” said Carson. “I play shortstop and centerfield, but I will probably play centerfield in college.” According to Carson, the Tennessee Volunteers have offered the athlete in both sports.
The Volunteers would be lucky to host Carson on the baseball diamond. Carson has been starting on the varsity baseball team since the seventh grade. There is a possibility of major league baseball in his future. Last season as a sophomore, he hit above a .400 average with 9 HR’s, 35 RBI, and stole 25 bases.
Discussing his abilities on the field, Carson was quick to know his ability to hit the hole and pick up some serious yardage. This is not surprising whatsoever. The junior running back was recently clocked at a blazing 4.37 40 yard dash.
“My strength would have to be my quickness and hitting the hole,” said Carson. “My weakness is definitely pass blocking for my quarterback.”
Last season, Carson rushed for 1,636 yards and 19 touchdowns. The early ESPNU 150 watch list member stated that he had no favorite childhood team.

This is the kind of guy we need. That speed is fantastic! That in itself is enough to wwant him. With the running ability to go with the speed, he sounds like someone that could improve us quickly. Just tah little bit of difference between 4.37 and say, 4.4 sometimes all that is needed to hit the hole while it’s open. This is the kind of guy that Fl. has gotten over the past few years that just tear up the defense, wearing them down trying to catch him. Come on up, you’ll be very welcome Shon. Be a vol!
GO VOLS!!!
Come to Tennesse and be a hero in front of over 100,000 people on Saturdays… the rest of the week you will be loved by millions!!!
