“It’s going very well,” said Landry. “LSU, Tennessee, Miami, and others have offered me. Recruiting has picked up and it is pretty cool right now. I received my offer from Tennessee after their camp. I guess I gave them a good first impression. I loved the school, environment, the people, and half the coaches are from Louisiana. That is a great thing too.”
The challenge to win the stud wide receiver is going to be a true battle. Landry discussed his most important criteria in selecting a future school.
“Mostly important to me is going to be my family,” said Landry. “It’s important for me to go to a school and just chill. I’m looking into where I can go and just feel like a part of the university as a member of the family.”
Louisiana has long been known to be one state that doesn’t usually allow its star high school players to exit the state. LSU has been controlling the state for some time. Landry discussed the possibility of staying with LSU.
“At first, LSU was the only school showing me any attention,” said Landry. “I’m now receiving attention from a lot of schools. The other schools that are coming after me are giving me more options. My options are wider. I wouldn’t say I am favored to go to LSU, but they are in the top. The other schools at the top are Tennessee, Oklahoma, UCLA, Miami, and Auburn. I have about fifteen offers, but I can’t keep track. My counselor at school deals with that.”
As a sophomore, Landry posted some amazing statistics. He led his Lutcher high school team to a Class 3A Louisiana State Championship. He was also awarded as a Class 3A First Team All-State member; recording 59 catches for 924 yards and 10 touchdowns to go with 45 carries for 410 yards and 5 TDs. Landry discussed his strengths and weaknesses on the football field.
“I think my strengths rely on my blocking and unselfishness,” said Landry. “I run my routes to get other guys open. I am a leader on and off the field. My weakness is more finishing the play and never taking a play off. That’s what I have been working on all offseason.”
Landry discussed his relationship with specific Volunteer coaches.
“Coach Wilson is the receivers coach and I have had a lot of contact with him,” said Landry. “He is from Louisiana and I have also been in contact with Coach Orgeron. He is from Louisiana and coaches their defensive line.”
All of the schools are currently recruiting Landry as a future wide receiver, but he explained his openness to playing on the other side of the line.
“I actually play defense for my high school team as well,” said Landry. “I am leading the team in tackles right now. I’m also looking into playing defense at the next level, but whatever is going to help the team.”
The 5’8, 181 pound junior has no decision timeline set for his future choice, but he does have future plans set to see Knoxville again.
“I will defiantly be catching one of their games this season,” said Landry.
