in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

Austin Seferian Jenkins may play in Washington away from the recruiting hotbeds of southern California, Florida, and Texas, but it has not kept college coaches from taking notice. He is a 2011 prospect that is already on the ESPN 150 watch list, and is already considered to be one of, if not the top tight ends in the country. Already walking around at 6’8” 240 lbs, this young man is built to play football. He currently holds 17 official written offers, and is hearing from the elite colleges nationwide.

“Yeah I currently hold 17 offers. I have offers from every Pac-10 school except for USC, BYU, Boise State, Miami-FL, Oklahoma, Florida, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Vanderbilt. They are all official offers. Actually Tennessee is coming after me the hardest but has not offered, Colorado, Florida, Oklahoma, Miami, and UCLA are coming after me pretty hard right now too. I’m totally open right now, but I like Colorado, Florida, Cal, UCLA, USC, and Miami-FL a little bit. I forgot to mention Oregon too, I’ve been watching them a lot lately. Distance won’t be a factor at all, I just want to find where I’m comfortable at,” said Sefarian-Jenkins. “

With a lot of offers on the table early for this young man, he’s also looking to decide early if possible. Sefarian-Jenkins claims he is on track to graduate early, and would like to decide by the end of his senior football season.

“Everyone is offering as a tight end, I’m not interested in playing any other positions. I’m pretty sure I will graduate early. So I would like to decide by the end of my senior season, that way I can ensure I have all my academics in order to graduate early. But you never know I could commit tomorrow, you just never know. I want to find an offense that uses the tight end, one that they like to use them a lot. Right now I think Florida, Miami will definitely get an official visit, Oregon will probably get one too. “

His season started off a little bit rocky but his team has rebounded as of late. The slow start didn’t slow up Sefarian-Jenkins at all.

“Season started off rocky, we went 0-2 in the beginning. We have gotten better now and are currently 3-3. We got a good win last Friday night so that was good. Right now I have 42 catches, 5 touchdowns, 700 yards, through 6 games. My strengths that coaches like is my catching, precise route running, the coaches really like that a lot. I want to work on everything, better blocking, getting faster. I never want to settle for being good, I want to be the best. I want to play in the NFL.”

Through some trips and camps along the way, Sefarian-Jenkins has met a few friends he’d consider playing with in college.

“I would like to play with Jake Heaps, I know him really well, he’s a cool guy. Kasen Williams is another player I know really well and like. And I also met Nick Rowland who just committed to Oregon when we both visited Washington. He’s a really cool guy, I’d like to get to know him more. Recruiting has been fun for the most part, it’s fun to have mail coming. It’s really been a blast so far.”
