Georgia Linebacker commits to Vols

The Tennessee Volunteer football team hosted numerous players this past weekend in Knoxville, TN and one of those players was AJ Johnson from Gainesville, GA. Johnson stars for Gainesville High and was recently visted from a group of Vol coaches including Coach Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron. During that second visit Johnson ended his recruiting process before it could really even pick up.

“Yes I did indeed commit to the Vols today at school,” said Johnson to VolNation.com. “I decided I felt it was the thing to do as I was really feeling the Vols after my visit and everything was lining up right.”

Getting an early jump on the 2011 class was a huge start for the Vols and the entire program was very excited when Johnson committed.

“The entire staff was jumping up and down and was really excited when I called them and let them know after we talked,” said Johnson. “I guess Coach O was jumping really high and was really pumped when I called. You could say they were excited.”

Johnson’s mom stated the family was at ease with his choice in the Vols.

“As a parent, I wanted what AJ wanted the most and whatever made him happy makes me happy,” said Mrs. Johnson. “I haven’t been up to the school yet but I already know that is the place he wants to be and I am glad he is happy.”

AJ Johnson comes in at 6’2 and 225 pounds and currently has 9 offers and picked the school who offered first, Tennessee.

While Johnson has picked his school early, he still plans on visiting schools in the future.

“I told the coaches I would still like to visit some schools down the road and they seemed ok with it,” said Johnson. “They said it was ok for me to do and I am still going to check some places as as it stands but we will see.”
