in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

With the wide receiver core is all but wrapped up for the Tennessee Volunteer football program the Vols coaching staff can now shift their focus over to the 2011 class and one of their first and primary targets is DeAnthony Arnett who hails from Saginaw, MI and Saginaw High School. VolNation caught up with Arnett and his older brother Ralph Arnett to discuss his recruiting process.

“Recruiting is still new and just picking up for us but things are going well,” said Ralph Arnett, DeAnthony’s older brother who helps handle the recruiting process. “DeAnthony is has offers from Tennessee, Eastern Michigan, Michigan, Michigan State, and we look to be really close to getting one from Oregon.”

With an early summer visit to Knoxville the Vols were one of the first schools to offer Arnett and that offer played a key role in the Vols chances.

“UT sends us a ton of mail on a weekly basis and they were an early offer for DeAnthony,” said Ralph. “The energy the coaching staff shows is a big draw to them and I know he loves them. LaMarr Woodley from the Pittsburgh Steelers came from Saginaw and he told us that Coach Kiffin recruited him back in college and that he is a really good guy.”

While the Vols were an early offer for DeAnthony he still maintains he is wide open to all schools that are looking at him.

“I’m totally open to everyone as I have no favorites at this time,” said DeAnthony. “I’m hearing from lots of schools, pretty much you name them. Right now I would say I am hearing from Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Alabama, and LSU quite a bit. That said I am still open to all schools right now.”

While there is no favorite at the moment DeAnthony’s older brother Ralph stated the chance to see a game or check out the campus down the road will be there and one they hope they can make.

“We know UT wants to have us come down as they’ve invited us multiple times to come down there for a visit,” said Ralph, “so you know they want us to come down there and check out the school.”

While the days turn colder the season for Arnett keeps heating up. Saginsaw is currently 3-4 and will need to win their next two games to make the playoffs. Arnett has been seeing double and triple teams each time he heads out for a pass yet that hasn’t stopped him from having a very good season. Through seven games he has 34 catches for 702 yards, 8 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions.
