One 2011 prospect the Vols are starting to recruit is once again a speedster with amazing speed. This time the Vols are looking at a player who’s already been on campus before in the past.

Damiere Byrd (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek HS) is a 5’10 165 pound athlete who posses speed many track stars would do anything to have. For that reason many schools, including Tennessee, have already started recruiting this top 150 watch list member for 2011. VolNation.com caught up with this talented player to check in and see where he stands in recruiting.

“Things are going pretty well for me right now and for my school,” said Byrd. “We are 4-1 and are in the heart of our conference schedule. We are just working to get better each week.”

While Byrd can’t provide any stats for his junior season he was able give us a description of his best game to date which happened this past weekend.

“I had a really good game last week for my team in the win,” said Byrd. “I rushed nine times for 185 yards and two touchdowns. I also had a punt return that I brought back for a score for 66 yards and a touchdown. I ended up having 290 all-purpose yards in that game.”

While being a threat to score from multiple areas on the field Byrd sees action all over the field.

“I play running back, wide receiver, and also return kicks,” said Byrd. “For college though I am being recruited to play wide receiver and that is where I want to play at the next level.”

While being recruited to play wide receiver Byrd went on to talk about what schools he is hearing from and what favorites he has.

“I hear a lot from South Carolina, Maryland, Rugters, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Cinncinati, Syracuse, Oregon, Idaho, UCLA, and Florida right now,” said Byrd. “The only offer I have right now is from Maryland.”

Growing up Byrd followed the Florida Gators but states he’s open to all schools.

“Growing up as I kid I’ve always like Florida for some reason,” said Byrd. “I am open though. I am still looking into a lot of schools and seeing what is out there and going from there, I am open.”

Byrd went into detail to talk about a few others schools that he likes.

Alabama

“I like Alabama because they have been pretty good the past few years and look to be re-establishing their dominance in the SEC,” said Byrd. “They are a school that plays hard and will be good for awhile.”

Oregon

“I’ve actually been out to Oregon before two years before and that is a big reason why I like them,” said Byrd. “I went there for a track meet and I checked everything out while I was there. I really liked the facilities and the stadium they have there. The campus was amazing when I was down there as well. They are also an upcoming school.”

Tennessee

“I have also been to Tennessee as well for a track meet,” said Byrd. “I went there a few years ago as well and I really enjoyed myself when I was there. Like Oregon the campus and the stadium was really amazing and I really liked it. It was really hot when I was there but that is ok, I can live with that. I also like the way Tennessee is playing right now and they look to be better.”

While Byrd is looking to star at wide receiver he is also looking for the chance to play another sport and a major that will allow him to get his dream job.

“I want to also run track in college if I can so that will play into my choice,” said Byrd. “My big thing though is I want to go to a school who can help me get my degree in sports medicine. I want to be a trainer down the road. It’s been my dream so I want to go somewhere who can help me get that.”

Byrd reports a 10.6 100 meter time and runs everything from 100 to the 400 and also takes part in relays.

VolNation.com will keep you updated on all the updates you need for the 2011 class and also with this talented wide receiver.
