A huge weekend for the Tennessee program just got a lot bigger as both Ken Adams and Kenbrell Thompkins have committed to the Tennessee staff. Adams was on campus this weekend and made the call before leaving town. Thompkins on the other hand has yet to step foot in Knoxville, period. VolNation caught up with Kenbrell this evening as he had a lot to say about how things went down and where things are at now.
“It just seemed like the best place for me you know. I am from Florida so getting back to the SEC was a big thing for me. I love the fact that they play hard-nosed football down there and I can’t wait to join the Vol program.”
Without ever being in Knoxville, how does Thompkins know that it is the right choice for him to make at this time?
“Well, I left Florida and came out to California without much warning so I don’t see how this will be much different. I have wanted to get back down there and now I am going to be there in January.”
Thompkins says he is on pace to graduate and be in Knoxville at the start of 2010. To him, this is a big deal as he wants to get in right away and make an impact on his new program.
“When I spoke with Coach Kiffin he told me I was the kind of threat they needed at the receiver spot and now he has me so I hope everything works out like we talked about” said the 6-foot-3, 190 pound, wide receiver, who will bring a lot of passion to the program.
“It is my time and I feel like Coach Kiffin is that type of guy too. He thinks it’s his time and he’s not afraid to tell you about it. His name is everywhere, for better or worse. Even (Hip-Hop Star) Lil’ Wayne mentions him in one of his new songs. I just love the attitude he brings and I want to be a part of that.”
Thompkins was highly regarded out of high school before heading to El Camino Junior College, where he has starred the past two seasons. Now, after a lot of speculation that Florida was his leader with Alabama, whom he visited last weekend, was not far behind. All that is now in the past as Kenbrell has made his college choice.
His decision really came out of nowhere as Tennessee had been in California scouting his quarterback a few weeks back and took a lot of interest in Kenbrell. Luckily for Lane Kiffin and the rest of the Tennessee football program, Kenbrell did the same with them.
“I have always liked Tennessee and I saw the way they handled themselves up close and in person last week at Alabama and I basically fell for them. I love Lane Kiffin and feel like this is going to be a great environment for me to succeed in.”
Vol Nation would like to thank Kenbrell for his time and congratulate him on his decision.

Another shout out to Kif and the gang
Short transcript
“What you don’t know Lane, is you’ll be sitting in some recruits living room, and his mom will yell for him to come up front. He will have his Ipod in, listening to “smoke w**d all day, talk **** like Lane Kiffin.” And then you can be like “Hi son, I’m Lane Kiffin.” And he’ll know what you’re talking about.”
“I got you Lil Lane, I hear thats what they callin you now. But for real, those boys over at Tennessee I rock wit yall!” I watched yall stomp south carolina, yall did your thing. I am a big fan of the ole ball coach, but yall did your thing, and I rock wit yall. Those black and orange jersey’s you killed em.”
LK…he is the man! He goes to recruit another player, then sees a top florida & bama target and literally takes this recruit from under them! Amazing is what that is. I mean taking a top target for the top 1&2 teams in the nation!
I love that the Lil Wayne’s mention is working out for Mr. Kiffin and the rest of the Volunteers, but we have to be real careful who we bring in. We also need to establish some boundries. Its that same kind of mention that got Janzen and Nukeese* locked up.
