One of Florida’s most prized recruits is Pahokee wideout De’Joshua Johnson. He is explosive in all aspects of the game. His acceleration and top speed are simply amazing. He has the ability to be utilized on offense in many positions, special teams, and as a defensive back. He recently eclipsed 1,000 all purpose yards on the season. He’s seeing time at quarterback, wide receiver, kick returner, and as a defensive back. Johnson made a commitment to the Noles back in June, but has sinced thought about taking other visits, and he continues to hear from some elite colleges with a lot of effort. We caught up with Johnson to find out the latest.
“No I haven’t set up any official visits yet. Right now I’m trying to focus on my senior season. After it is over I will take some official visits including one to FSU. Everything is still cool with them. I love Florida state. I am still a soft verbal to them right now, nothing has changed. In fact I spoke with coach (Lawrence) Dawsey today. I called him just to check in and see how everything was going. I’m going up in a couple weeks when they play Maryland on an unofficial visit.”
Johnson claims he is still hearing from several programs even with his commitment to Florida State. He doesn’t have any particular schools that he has official visits set up with at this time. But there are a few schools that have been recruiting him the hardest.
“Yeah I’ve been hearing from University of South Florida, Miami, and Alabama a lot recently. Also Tennessee has been calling me a lot. Actually not more than ten minutes after I hung up with coach Dawsey, the wide receivers coach from Miami called me. Those are definitely some big time programs and I may take a visit up there after my season is over. We’ll just have to wait and see. Our season has been going real good, and I don’t have a lot of spare time right now to pay much attention to recruiting. I’m just focusing on us winning state for the fourth time in a row. The championship game is December 13th, so after that I’ll start setting up visits.”
De’Joshua was nominated for the two major all star games, but in the end was not invited to participate in either. He claims he was a little surprised, but didn’t think too much about it.
“I was definitely surprised I was not invited for the Under Armour or Army game this year. I’ve been making a lot of improvements on the field this year. My decision making is lots better. My route running and my ability to find the soft spots are also much improved. I want to continue working on my speed, and getting ready for college. I haven’t set a decision date yet. It will probably be right around signing day. It could be a few days before it or even after it, I’m just not sure yet.”
