Tennessee is home to the nation’s best safety, Eric Berry, and is trying to find a solid replacement. The class of 2011 won’t have many better safety prospects as Tyler Hunter. The Lowndes (GA) product is a physical specimen and has already attracted the attention of some of the best colleges in the nation. VolNation caught up with Hunter to discuss his recruitment and future plans.
“Everything is going good,” said Hunter. “I have been talking to Alabama a lot. I have also been talking to Florida and Georgia. Those three schools are showing me the most attention.”
The Tennessee staff has been on the prowl and recently stopped by Valdosta to watch some prospects. Hunter described the relationship.
“Tennessee is a school that interests me,” said Hunter. “They offered me and came to my school like three weeks back. Coach Kiffin and Thompson stopped by our school. I got a chance to talk with them. It was cool to see them both. I haven’t spoken to them since.”
The ESPNU 150 Watch List member explained his current season and what are his strengths and weaknesses
“Our season is going pretty good right now,” said Hunter. “I didn’t play last week because of a high ankle sprain, but I’ll be ready for the playoffs. I have no idea what my personal stats are. My biggest weakness is my zone coverage. I need to work on watching the quarterback and breaking on the ball better. My biggest attribute is open field tackling.”
The 5’11, 190 lb defensive back is looking for three major factors in his recruitment- coaching, playing time, and academics. Hunter grew up a Florida State fan and has been keeping an eye on their program. He has already made one trip to FSU and plans on making other college trips in the future.
“I don’t think I will be visiting Tallahassee in the next few weeks,” said Hunter. “I will be going to watch them play in Florida. I’ll be there for that. I’d love to go and visit Tennessee in the future. I don’t really know when, but I hope to make it up there sometime. If I can then I will. “
Hunter explained that he is in no rush and plans on making his commitment some time during his senior season.
