Vol Nation recently told you about a couple of California’s top players for the class of 2011 and now we bring you yet another top prospect from the west coast who currently holds a Tennessee offer. Woodland Hills, Ca (Taft) defensive tackle Antwaun Woods is up to double-digit offers already and a few of those are from the SEC.
Ed Orgeron has a lot of connections at Taft as he took advantage of their talent while he was at Southern California. Now that he has moved on to the SEC, he kept those connections and he is hot after another big time prospect out of Taft. Woods, the 6-foot-1, 295 pound wrecking ball that has schools fighting over him, has a lot of options and he is not eliminating anyone at this point.
“I have a bunch of offers and I just want to finish out my season and take it all in. We have a huge game this week against Dorsey (Another LA City powerhouse) and once our season does come to an end, I will be able to some more research on these schools.”
Woods has been quoted as saying that he would like to leave the state as he has grown up in Los Angeles and would like to see something else during college.
“Honestly, I love USC and everything about them but at the same time, I have seen everything around here and going somewhere else would be amazing. I went o the Penn State camp with my coach this summer and thought it was cool. It is a lot different than LA but I liked it a lot” said Woods.
Earlier in the process Woods mentioned a few other schools that he had an eye on and one of those happens to be a big rival for the Vols.
“Florida gave me a verbal offer this summer and then they sent me the written offer in September. Them and Tennessee will both get a serious look from me, my coach and my family.”
In the early part of his high school career, Woods admits that he was having some grades issues but now claims that they are all squared away.
“Yeah, I was messing around and not being smart about things but I learned real quickly that if I don’t get my grades straightened out, all this other stuff means nothing because it won’t even be an option for me.”
Antwaun says that he plans on taking in as many team camps as possible this spring and summer in order to get to spend as much time as possible with all the coaches from the schools that have offered the likely five-star tackle. Pretty much any list you see talking up the top kids in the class of 2011, will have the Taft star on it.
Coach Orgeron’s connections could lead Woods to take a long hard look at the Vols and recognize the history the Vols have on the defensive line.
