Kenbrell ThompkinsThe Kenbrell Thompkins saga is officially over.

It’s not often that a school lands a prospect of Thompkins’ caliber in late March, but today, according to ESPN affiliate BearCatLair.com, the talented junior college receiver officially became a Cincinnati Bearcat.

Thompkins, from El Camino Junior College, originally signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Coach Lane Kiffin at Tennessee, but when Kiffin bolted for USC, the 6-3, 190-pounder had second thoughts about his decision.

Most believe Thompkins has the physical tools that would allow him to compete for immediate playing time for the Vols this season. But apparently, Tennessee’s new staff was unable to convince the talented prospect that Knoxville was the place for him. He never attended classes and asked to be released from his letter of intent.

It seems Coach Derek Dooley wasn’t eager to release him, but the Vols’ coach finally agreed.

According to BearCatLair.com, since Thompkins initially signed a letter of intent with Tennessee, he is not eligible to sign another letter to attend Cincinnati. He signed grant-in-aid papers instead.

Thompkins, who is considered by some to be the top junior college wide receiver in the country, could enroll at Cincinnati immediately and would be eligible to participate in spring practices.

Glad he found a home. Sure wish it was Rocky Top. This guy is going to be in the NFL one day I’m sure.
