Athens, GA.- Clarke Central high is some pretty familiar grounds for new Tennessee coach Derek Dooley. Coach Dooley and Smith likely spend some of their time re-living the glory days of 1985. Back then the two coaches were part of a Georgia state championship team at Clarke Central. Dooley remains to have ties to the school to this day. Current Clarke Central head coach was part of the staff at LSU with coach Dooley. It’s no surprise that star offensive lineman Alan Posey has placed Tennessee in his top two teams. He spoke about his top 2 schools, and his decision which will be coming in early May.
“Clemson and Tennessee are my two top schools. Clemson is probably recruiting me the hardest, but Tennessee is right there with them. Clemson is recruiting me as an offensive tackle. Tennessee said they weren’t sure yet, they told me they switch their guys around a lot.”
With 13 offers in hand, Alan said a decision is not far away for him.
“I’m going to commit on May 4th. My grandfather passed away on that day, it’s a meaningful day to me. I always wanted to commit early, and I’m ready to get it over with.”
Alan is a giant on the gridiron. He is currently 6’6″ 310 lbs and plays tough. He grew up a Georgia fan and claims the campus is within walking distance from home. Last year Clarke Central was state runner up, and Alan said they plan on making a run again this year. His link to Tennessee and coach Dooley is hard to ignore.
“Tennessee is great. I like the SEC, I like to play against tough competition. Coach Dooley and Smith went to my high school they understand what it’s like to be a Gladiator. My head coach was at LSU with coach Dooley so they know each other really well. Coach Hiestand and I have built a good relationship. He loves how I finish my blocks. He also said he loves my passion for football.”
“Clemson is close to home, its only like 70 miles away. It has that small town feel to it. I have been there three times so I’m very familiar with it. Coach Napier is recruiting me and he really knows the offense.”
With a decision looming near Alan mentioned some of his final plans regarding his commitment.
“I will hold a little press conference at school that morning and that’s it. After I commit I will only visit the school I commit to and not anybody else. I’m looking at the offensive line coach as one of the biggest factors. That’s the guy I gotta see every day, I gotta like him. I have been lucky to have the same offensive line coach in high school, and he’s very good. he has put a lot of guys in to college.”
With spring ball just about to start up, Alan noted what he will be working on.
“Everything. You always have to improve. I want to work on my hands, my technique, and much more.”
Stay tuned to find out if coach Dooley and staff are able to land this dominant lineman.
