Greenville, SC.- One of the big winners this spring is J.L. Mann high safety Pat Martin. After sitting on half a dozen offers for quite some time, he’s now up to over 20 offers. While he has been adding many top schools it appears he’s now looking to narrow the list back down between his suitors. He discussed his offers, visits, and other recruiting information in this latest update.

“Everything is great, just trying to find a school. I’ve got 22 offers now, the latest one was South Carolina. I have offers from South Carolina, Tennessee, LSU, UCLA, and Oklahoma are a few. My top 5 in no order are South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, LSU, UCLA, in no order.”

Pat is getting ready to make a couple visits and he talked about his plans there.

“I’m going down to Tennessee on Saturday. Georgia on July 15th, Florida on July 23rd. I might go to South Carolina instead of Florida but we’ll see, probably Florida. I don’t have an offer from Florida, but they told me to come down and camp to earn an offer. I’m going to commit probably at the end of July.”

As for his top and likely final five, he discussed what he likes about each school briefly.

“Tennessee is coming on strong. Coach Dooley and Joseph send me hand written letters all the time. They are one of my top schools. South Carolina is the in-state school, I would be able to play in front of my friends and family. They came in kind of late, but they are in the picture. LSU is big time, they are a great program. I grew up liking LSU and I think they could get me to the NFL. North Carolina is my dream school, they always have been.”

After naming his top 5 he went on to discuss what he is looking for in a university choice.

“I want to go to a school that will make me great. A great man, player, and future husband.”

ESPN Scouts Inc Evaluation:

Martin is a well-rounded safety prospect who may be falling under the radar with versatility he brings to the table. Has a solid build, more than adequate height and very good overall range. Displays relatively fluid hips turning and running with slots and can also drive hard and be an intimidating presence over the middle. He’s a savvy, instinctive safety who seems to find the ball naturally in coverage and make plays. Flashes good deep ball and overall coverage skills. Shows good burst and range breaking over routes equally impressive closing underneath. Soundly times his break and flashes good explosion out of his pedal and driving hard on the ball in front of him. Eliminates yards after the catch with very solid contact. Separates a lot of balls from the receiver as well and can be an intimidating presences over the middle. Tight, fluid pedal and he’s sharp and direct out of his breaks; can turn and run when matched up over slots in man without a lot of wasted transitional movement flipping his hips. Decisive run supporter who is quick to get downhill and provide stout run support to the front side. Runs the alley with sharp pursuit angles and maintains proper leverage on the ball carrier. Is a solid tackler and overall just a solid player. You would like to see a bit more height, body length and speed; his physical upside may be limited as well. That’s said, we feel Martin is a scheme versatile defensive back who understands the position, is fundamentally sound and has some obvious physical tools that to develop. A tough competitor who plays the position with some intangibles you can’t coach. Should be a great special teams player adding to his upside as well.

Would LOVE to open up that J.L. Mann pipeline!! Oh yeah, and we would be getting one heck of a ball player while we were at it.
