Tampa, FL.- Freedom high school defender Keith Lewis keeps adding new offers. Currently the star is up to 29 total offers with the most recent coming from the west coast. USC has extended an offer to Lewis and joins Oregon, Tennessee, USF, Auburn, Michigan, and North Carolina who have offered. At 6’1″ 216 pounds he has the size to play a couple of positions depending on future growth. He could possibly play a jumbo sized safety, or a “nickel” back, or outside linebacker more commonly the “will” position.

“I’m hoping to break down to a top 7 by September. I don’t know why I picked that particular number but it may be around 5 or so. I’m just talking to all of the coaches and trying to learn more about them. A couple weeks ago I went on a big trip with some other recruits like Josh Grady and Anthony Chickillo. We visited FSU, Ole Miss, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn. Some were camps and some were just visits. I was surprised but Ole Miss looked the cleanest since they didn’t have any construction going on. All of the others did, but they were all very nice.”

With no current favorites, Lewis discussed which schools were showing him the most attention right now.

“USC, USF, Auburn, North Carolina and several others are recruiting me hard. There’s quite a few of them. I would like to hear a little more from LSU or FSU. Neither have offered yet but they both could be close. My parents have been real big on this process. I’ve been taking several online courses and my parents have been handling a lot of the recruiting information for me. It’s been a lot of help.”

While USC and Oregon are at a geographical disadvantage, Lewis explained that he is open to any school no matter what distance.

ESPN Scouts Inc Evaluation:

Lewis is a very good athlete, capable of making plays all over the field. Has the minimum size for the outside linebacker position at the major level of competition. This is an interesting prospect as he possesses very good running back skills. Shows good playing speed; runs over his pads with a slashing style and is a good lead blocker. We see potential as a two way player. Shows very good flexibility, balance and agility; does a nice job with K&D run recognition skills. Is more of a lateral run player than downhill guy. His quickness allows him to avoid contact when moving through traffic but does flash the playing strength to take on and defeat blockers. This prospect lines up on or off the line of scrimmage offering game plan flexibility; does a good job coming off the edge and reacting to inside running plays. Displays the balance and explosion to be a destructive force against the run; has similar production off the edge in passing situations with a good burst to the QB. His athleticism and fluid hips will be an asset in coverage; displays crossover ability with good plant and close on the ball; has the potential to cover inside receiver’s man up. Demonstrates sure tackling skills. This guy brings a good motor to the game with the pursuit habits which allow him to make plays all over the field. We see potential for very good production as a special team’s player. Lewis has the athleticism and intensity necessary for a productive career at the major level of competition. However some time and perhaps a red shirt year may be necessary to improve his physical and technical skills.
