Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray earned the SEC Freshman of the Week award for the third time in the last four weeks, sharing the honor with Mississippi State tailback LaDarius Perkins, as announced by the league office Monday.

Bray is one of just seven players to garner three or more SEC Player of the Week honors in 2010, and Bray’s have all come since taking over the starting role at the beginning of November against Memphis, Nov. 6.

The Kingsburg, Calif., native completed 20-of-38 pass attempts for 354 yards — all career highs — to lead UT to a 24-14 win over Kentucky on Saturday. Bray threw a pair of first-half touchdown passes to help the Vols to their 26th consecutive win over the Wildcats, extending the longest active streak in major college football.

His 354 passing yards against the Wildcats are the eighth-most by an SEC quarterback this season and made him one of just three quarterbacks in the conference to claim three 300-yard passing performances, all of which ranked in the top 14 game totals this year. Bray also became the first UT quarterback to throw multiple TDs in five consecutive games since Erik Ainge accomplished the feat in the final five contests of 2007 (Arkansas-Wisconsin).

Bray’s 1,537 passing yards are a UT freshman record and the first-year signal-caller won his fourth consecutive start to help Tennessee become bowl eligible.

Tyler Bray’s success was a highligt of the season for me. His ability to attack offenses affected the entire attitude of the team. He will only improve as he get stronger and has an improved running game. I wish that he was starter in the SC game. I believe that we have won that game had he been in the entire time.

I agree. As I see it, we are an 8-4 team with a 6-6 record (i.e. had LSU beat and I agree we should have beat SC). I feel a victory over LSU would have probably jumped started some motivation that would have at least produced a win in one of the three following games after LSU. Right now, a victory over NC in the Music City will be an awesome jump start for 2011.
