University of Tennessee Director of Sports Medicine Jason McVeigh announced Monday that sophomore linebacker Herman Lathers underwent successful right shoulder surgery last week. The surgery was performed by Dr. Greg Mathien and Dr. Russell Betcher of the Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Lathers is expected to be very limited during spring practice but should return for summer workouts and be ready to participate without restrictions when fall camp begins.
A 6-0, 217-pound linebacker from Baton Rouge, La., Lathers recorded career-high totals in virtually every category in 2010. He started 12 of the Vols’ 13 games in 2010, finishing with 75 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. HIs 75 tackles ranked second on the team, and he recorded a season-high 10 tackles both at LSU and at Vanderbilt.
In two seasons with Tennessee, Lathers has played in 25 games, starting 17.
