Bruce Pearl returned to the sideline Tuesday night, having served his eight game Southeastern Conference suspension handed down by Mike Slive.
He may wish the suspension had been nine games, however, as No. 18 Kentucky defeated Tennessee by a score of 73-61 at Rupp Arena. The victory is the Wildcats’ fifth consecutive over the Vols in Lexington.
After falling behind by 19 points in the first half, Melvin Goins knocked down a 3-pointer from the corner just before halftime to trim Kentucky’s lead to seven.
But after Goins sliced the lead to five on the the Vols’ first possession of the second half, Kentucky reeled off 13 straight points and never looked back.
DeAndre Liggins led all scores with 19 points, tying a career-high.
Melvin Goins led the Vols with 16 points and Scotty Hopson — in his first game back after missing two games with an ankle injury — scored 11. Josh Bone chipped in 13 off the bench.
Tennessee will travel to Gainesville on Saturday to take on the division-leading Florida Gators.
