Tennessee’s Trae Golden, a 6-foot-1, 209-pound sophomore guard from Powder Springs, Ga., was named SEC Player of the Week after he registered 29 points, nine assists, six rebounds, two steals and a block in a win over UNC Greensboro. Golden set career-highs for points (29), rebounds (6), assists (9), field goals made and attempted (10-14) and 3-pointers made and attempted (5-9) in just 27 minutes of action as Tennessee defeated UNC Greensboro 92-63 in the season opener. Golden did not miss a 2-point field-goal attempt (5-5), he shot 4-of-5 at the free-throw line. It was just the second start of Golden’s career, and he had never previously scored in double figures in his career (previous high of 8 pts).

Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, a 6-foot-10, 222-pound freshman forward from Chicago, Ill., was named SEC Freshman of the Week after he tallied a double-double in his first career outing. He scored 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field, of which eight of those field goals were dunks. Davis also added five blocks and three assists to his stat line. He became the second UK freshman (Terrence Jones) in as many years to post a double-double in his first career outing.
