Junior Highlights
ESPN Evaluation
What Howard may lack in size, he more than makes up for in playmaking ability, speed and explosiveness. He is a human spark plug and what we love about him is that he is a tough guy that plays big and physical. He is a hybrid running back/slot receiver that is a nightmare in space. Out of the backfield he is like Jeff Demps (no one is as fast as Demps), but Howards can accelerate from 0-60 in the blink of an eye. Hits the hole at full speed and shows good vision and a feel for hitting the cutback. Squares up his shoulder pads quickly and finds the crease. Shows some suddenness and sharp cutting ability picking and stabbing his way through traffic, but is most effective on the perimeter where he can use his speed to get to the edge, turn the corner and go. From his receiver spot he is at his best in the slot. He gets downfield so fast and is an absolute mismatch for safeties, linebackers and most nickels at this level. He is the ultimate utility player in the spread offense that is great on screens, reverses and quick hitters that allow for him to get into space and make people miss in the open field. Howard is not a big target, but he is extremely quick, has good hands, plucks on the move and wastes little time in transition. He runs very low to the ground and shows good surge off the ball. Has upside to become a very good route runner because of his ability to stop and start on a dime, but at this stage just wins on pure athleticism and playmaking ability. His size will limit his effectiveness in the red area, but that is not to mean he isn’t physical or tough because he is. Overall, Howard can role and he is very productive, confident and is a natural playmaker. Don’t be surprised to see him looked at as a corner too. excellent prospect.
