Lane Kiffin already has landed the 2009 top running back in Bryce Brown and another star back in David Oku. With both backs seeing action and doing well in the first game of the 2009 season the Vols have now set their sights on one of the top 2011 running backs to continue the run of highly regarded prep backs. Jeremy Hill (Baton Rouge, LA/Redemptorist HS) is a 6’1 225 bruising back with 4.59 speed who has been given an official scholarship offer from the Vols. VolNation.com caught up with this talented back to see how his junior season is going and how his recruiting process is going early on.
“Our season just got started but things are going really good for us,” said Hill. “ I had 170 yards rushing with 30 more yards off receiving and two touchdowns. I only got to play in the first half and then the first drive in the second half so I could have done better. Overall we played pretty well and I am just working hard to do the best I can for my team.”
One surprising feature that Hill presents for his offensive coordinator and to his future coordinator is the ability to be used in the passing game.
“People see my size and think I can’t be a threat in the passing game, boy are they wrong,” said Hill. “I am pretty good going out of the backfield and also lining up out wide. I usually get matched up with a linebacker and I am a huge mismatch for them out there. I just try to be the best at whatever can help my team win.”
With a strong sophomore season and a junior campaign that is starting off where he left off Hill has seen colleges already step in the ring for his commitment.
“Right now I have offers from Colorado, Houston, Florida State, Tennessee, and LSU,” said Hill. “Right now I don’t have any favorites right now but there are a few schools I like. LSU is my hometown school and so naturally I am a fan of the tigers. I also love the USC Trojans. Even though I don’t have an offer from them I like watching them play. Tennessee is another school I am really interested in for a lot of reasons.”
What might those reasons be for this talented back?
“Well, first off they showed me the love early when they offered me a scholarship,” said Hill. “Getting that offer early shows they are committed to me and they really want me. I also love coach Wilson. I can’t wait to get up to Tennessee this year to check out a game. I promise you right now I am going to be up there at some point for a visit.”
Hill also had some thoughts on new head coach Kiffin and this year’s Volunteer team.
“I love coach Kiffin,” said Hill. “He is really going to be turning it around, I can feel it. I saw the game they played against Western Kentucky and the atmosphere at the stadium was off the hook.”
While having Brown and Oku on the roster already Hill isn’t scared from competing with either player and talked with VolNation.com about is criteria for choosing a college.
“Well first and foremost I want to get a good education,” said Hill. “ I also am looking for a place who has great coaches to surround me. Lastly I’d like to be a full time starter by the time I am a junior, but I am willing to work and be a complement back starting out.”
Clearly the Vols have struck a cord with this talented player from Louisiana and VolNation.com will keep you updated on all news regarding Hill.
