in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

One of the finest players in Florida is likely never to leave the state to continue playing football. 2011 ESPNU watch list linebacker Denzel Perryman holds an impressive list of offers already. He continues to hear from every elite school in the south among others. Blessed with a blend of great size and speed, Denzel is currently 5’11” 210 lbs and plays at Coral Gables High, in Coral Gables, Florida. We took some time to find out about his recruiting status and about some of those early offers.

“Right now I have a lot of offers. MIami, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Boston College, Duke, West Virginia, Notre Dame, and Alabama to name a few. I’m open minded right now and don’t want to eliminate anyone yet. But right now I would have to say that Florida State, Florida, Miami, and Alabama are after me the hardest. They send lots of letters and call me a little bit. I would have to say the Florida schools are probably my top choices at this time. I may stay in Florida to play my college ball. But we’ll see, it’s still early.”

There is a lot of rich history of winning in many of those offers. Denzel sites he is looking for great academics and the chance to play early if possible. Right now he has one last game for his junior regular season, then it’s time for the playoffs.

“Yeah we only have one more game this Friday, then we start playoffs. After season is over I’ll probably do some camps this summer, maybe take some unofficial visits to a few schools. I’ve been playing tight end as well as linebacker this year, but will play will look to play linebacker in college. Most schools see me as an inside linebacker I think. I think most of the schools like my speed, ability, and my size.”

He also took a moment to break down what he likes about a few select schools.

“FSU, they have great history. It’s a good program and they have a great staff. They also have produced a lot of great linebackers through the years. The coaching changes don’t really bother me at all. One of the coaches came down and checked up on me this year already. I will most likely take an unofficial visit there after my season is over.”

“Bama is a program that is rising. I like how they play defense as well. I love their defense in fact. I get lots of mail from them, they seem to be recruiting me pretty hard right now.”

“Tennessee sends me letters every day. I like their defense too. They have really big crowds they play in front of and I like that. I really think that program is rising up.”

“South Carolina is another good school. I don’t quite know a lot about them yet, but I do like their defense. I also hear from some friends it’s a really good school.”

Denzel also expressed an interest in some computer programming degrees as a possible major in college. Seems as though this young man may look to stay in state, but there is still a long ways to go in this one.
