Among all the recent events, things have become a little blurred but they are starting to come clear again. By naming a solid and respected man as the new head coach, Tennessee has positioned themselves to finish strong and get a solid start to the class of 2011. Vol Nation was able to touch base with one of the class of 2011’s most promising players. Even without Coach Orgeron on campus, Tennessee will always be highly thought of in terms of defensive linemen.
One of California and even the nation’s best defensive prospects for the class of 2011 is Serra High (Gardena, CA) standout, Jason Gibson. Gibson has been an all-area player for the past two years and that is quite impressive based on the competition he plays against.
Gibson may not get the most attention in the world right now but that will be changing real soon. When you have teammates such as Robert Woods, Paul Richardson and George Farmer it is easy to get overlooked. The group of receivers makes up the best set of receivers in the country with two five-stars and a solid four-star among them. Gibson will have similar rankings next year as he has proven time and time again that he has the skill to become something special on the next level.
Right now it is unclear where he will play on the next level but wherever it is, you bet he will be successful.
“I can play standing up or I can play with my hand down. I have heard mostly from coaches that want me to play with my hand down and come off the edge, but others want me as an outside linebacker. Right now, I don’t have much of a preference really. I just want to work on getting bigger and better before next season comes around” said the Serra star.
With Woods and Richardson gone next year, it will be Gibson and Farmer’s team as they try and get back to the California State Championship, like they did this year.
“We lose ‘Woody’ and Paul but we are still going to be tough to beat and I fully expect that we will be back there again next year but that is not without hard work.”
As of right now, Gibson has double digit offers, including most of the PAC-10 and one from the University of Tennessee.
“I have been blessed to have the opportunity to play for a great team and have the size and skill to be good football player. Colleges have taken notice and I will listen to any school that approaches me with an offer or any school that wants to see or hear more out of me. I will respect the process and the opportunity to go through the recruiting process.”
Vol Nation will have more on Jason Gibson as time goes on. He had an offer from the previous regime but he is the type of talent that the offer should stick
