Nashville, TN- Winning the battle in the trenches can go a long way towards building a solid program. Often times the interior lineman receive very little recognition, however they are called upon on every play. Unfortunately, offensive lineman is one of the most difficult positions to project for college success among college coaches. However, blue chip prospect Antonio Richardson seems like a “can’t miss” type of prospect. Currently, the 6’6″ 300 lb junior holds 4 offers, and he’s hearing from a lot more. Here’s the latest he had to say.
“I think I have 4 or 5 offers. I seem to have had a lot of interest so far. Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, and LSU have all offered already. Coach Chaney from Tennessee called and talked to me. My father and I spoke with him and then with coach Dooley. He was telling me everything was still the same and that my offer from the old staff was still good. In fact, he told me I was their number one guy for 2011. He said he was going to send out a new offer with his signature on it right away.”
Tennessee is one of many showing strong interest in the offensive tackle. Miami, Mississippi state, Florida State, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Oregon, South Carolina, Auburn, Duke are among many schools he’s heard from.
“Lots of SEC schools come by, Auburn, Duke, lots of teams. I’m keeping my options open though, I don’t have any leaders. I would like to stay in the south I think, so I’m kind of favoring SEC and ACC schools. I’ve heard from Kiffin and Orgeron over at USC, they were recruiting me real hard when they were at Tennessee. I think they will offer real soon.”
Antonio could play on either side of the ball. In fact he claims some schools are interested in him playing at tackle, some at defensive tackle.
“Schools are recruiting me for both sides of the ball. I’ll play wherever, I just want to play football. Most schools like my athleticism and my work ethic. I think I can play for any offense, I can run block and pass block well. This spring I’m going to work on my conditioning and footwork. I’m not going to commit early, I will do it when the time is right, but I’m in no hurry right now.”
