KNOXVILLE – Six Vols were named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl Watch List Tuesday, the second most of any team in the Southeastern Conference. The Senior Bowl will be played Jan. 25, 2014 in Mobile, Ala.
Zach Fulton, Ja’Wuan James, Daniel McCullers, Rajion Neal, Jacques Smith and James Stone earned the honor for the Vols who had five players named to the watch list last season.
At least one Tennessee Vol has played in the Senior Bowl every year dating back to 1988 including Herman Lathers and Dallas Thomas last year.
More than 400 players, who will hope to be invited to the annual week-long event that provides college football’s best seniors with extensive exposure to NFL scouts and coaches, were named Tuesday with the SEC conference making up 72 of those.
Fulton, James and Stone have anchored the Vols offensive line for the last three seasons and helped pave the way for an offense that averaged 477.6 yards per game and allowed just seven sacks, the second fewest in the NCAA in 2012.
James has started and played all 37 games of his career at right tackle for the Vols. Fulton has been a fixture at right guard beginning his sophomore season while Stone has seen action at center and left guard during his time on Rocky Top.
Last season, McCullers made an instant impact on the Tennessee defensive line, starting seven games and accumulating 39 tackles, including 5.5 for negative yardage.
Neal has seen action in 31 games during his Tennessee career gaining 1,039 yards on 229 attempts and seven touchdowns, the majority coming last season. During his sophomore year, Neal was used mostly as a wide receiver and has made 39 catches for 518 yards and five TDs.
Smith has played in all 37 games since arriving on Rocky Top while tallying 92 tackles, 19.5 tackles for a loss of 75 yards and 4.5 sacks.
