'15 FL QB/WR/DB (anything he wants) Torrance Gibson

Gibson is likely the best athlete in this class. You cannot pass on him.

Taking 2 QBs already would not set us up well to get Gibson yet here we are as his leader and likely landing spot.

Last year we had 4 QBs. They were all hurt at one point with 2 or 3 unable to play. Dobbs played the last game with some kind of hand injury. 5 qbs is not too many.

I really don't get why some posters like Tux and LV are so anti TG at QB. Why would you not want different style QBs with great talent on the roster competing for the starter role if you love your team? The system Butch runs is adaptable to just about any style QB if you actually understand it. Which may be the issue. Pretty ignorant approach IMO.

I have reviewed the highlights and am amazed at the special talent he is with only one year at the position. So what if he runs half the time - this is college football, not the NFL. He will run less as he learns the position better and become a better passer. If he gets hurt, the #2 goes in, who may be a pass first guy. Butch adjusts accordingly. I will be ecstatic when he commits. To have him and Dormady competing would be wonderful.
I have explained myself well throughout this thread. He is not a passing QB. He is run first-pass second QB and that is not the offensive system that he has recruited for the past 2 plus classes. I believe that Butch has the type of QB to best compliment his recruiting at UT in Quinten Dormady. I do not see how how Gibson could carry out the offense better than Dormady based upon the passing mechanics that I have seen on film.

That is no slam on TG. I would be ecstatic to have him play the WR position, where he would ideally be allowed to best use his best skills-using his legs to create plays in space.

I agree that 5 QBs is not too many. IMO it's actually just enough. 3 QBs in 1 class is absolutely too many IMO.

If you need to take 2-3 QBs a class "in case someone does not pan out", then you have the wrong coaches coaching and the wrong guys recruiting the QB position.

If we have to go through 3 or more QBs again, then the system that Butch is running must be re-looked at. How many top teams in the nation, routinely go through that many QBs?

The best scenario down the line is to recruit and sing one top QB every year. You will get a top QB probably once every 2-3 seasons.

Makes a lot of sense to me. :dunno:

Would I rather see a QB keeping it all the time or see the ball go to North, Pearson, Malone, Hurd, Scott, Paulk, Jenkins, Wharton, Pig, Helm, Wolf, DY, and on, and on, and on.

IMO it's a no brainer. Give me the QB who has the tools to spread it around and would rather allow the guys around him to keep the offense in a flow than just tuck it and run.

7 on 7 he is a WR. The Opening he is a WR. His own HS team may move him to WR. If throwing the ball is part of a competitive camp, he skips it. Yet he is the answer for Tennessee at QB. Alrighty Then.

This.

I don't care what position he plays in the end. I just want him in orange either way. The kid is one hell of an athlete.

But my head won't explode like some people's will.

Despite what some would say, mine won't either. CBJ decides to take him at QB, I'll roll with it. It's not like I have much of a choice. :p

There will always be a scholarship here or there that the coaches will be willing to throw away. Maybe the kid pans out and maybe not. This may be one of those times. Of course I'd much rather see them do it in a class of 32(last year) vs a small one like this year.

I'll admit it seems very odd to me that folks can't grasp what I am saying concerning the "3 QBs" in a class. Yes, Yes, Yes, I fully understand that 1 or both ATHs MAY switch to another position. For the 934th time, the issue I have is IF they line up as a QB and are given a CHANCE at QB at Tennessee you have just about signed off on no QB in 2016. By the time either kid would get his chance and then switch positions, 2016 QB recruiting is over with.

Do I think QD is set up as the best QB option in the 2015 class? Without a doubt. He does what this UT team needs and that is throw the ball well and take advantage of the playmakers we have on offense. Do I expect Dobbs to start in 2015? Yup.

What I am saying is if I could have my choice of Dormady, Jennings, and Gibson in 2015 or Dormady, Jennings, (insert Best Available-non 3rd QB here), and a top caliber QB in 2016? I'll take the 2nd option everyday without hesitation.

Now if CBJ can sign Gibson as a WR and he does NOT line up at QB in camp, I see no issue as It would not affect QB recruit next year.

IMO Anyone who thinks taking 3 QBs in 2015 and "allowing it to play out" will set us up to get a top QB in 2016 has just not been paying attention.

Do I think TG will be a successful QB at Tennessee? I do not. His 4.4 speed and running around everywhere is not what UT needs at the QB position. Signed, the rest of the Tennessee offense.

Leb, you act as if he would never pass at all or simply cant.

LOL at "throwing a scholarship away" with Gibson. You sure you aren't thinking of Bruce or Lovingood?

Gibson has been offered by every elite coach (and every other coach for that matter) in the country and is a consensus top 25 player.

His chances of "panning out" are significantly higher than any other commit except for Preston on our list at the moment.

It is JMO. I am not the one at the camps, events, and possibly his own HS moving him to WR. My opinion is based off everything I have seen & read. TG at QB to me would make a lot of sense if we were going to run the WildGibson about 92% of the time. Sure he can throw it. It shows him doing so in his highlight tape. I'll say this though, IF his HS coach moves him to WR because of some other QB coming in, maybe we should be more focused on that kid at QB. Just saying.

Lovingood and Bruce are Tennessee commitments. Gibson is not. Maybe he will be, and maybe not. The coaches did take the other 2 already though. They look to be Vols.

That's great and all but you specifically stated that accepting a commitment from Gibson would be "throwing away a scholarship."

So try and think of another way to walk that one back.

I can only hope TG commits early to UT. No matter how bad my day has been, I can always go to this thread and have a good laugh

This is very narrow minded. Why not move JJ before he ever takes a snap at QB if you're fine with moving TG?

You do this in every thread you always pick the oddballs as who u want over the top tier talent. Whether its Dormadyand Jennings over Gibson or Tuttle over Settle. None of them are bad players but its ok to want the most talented player every once in a while.

I don't have to walk anything back. IF the staff takes TG as a 3rd QB and not at WR, IMO we just threw away a scholarship. Now if they move him to WR before all the 2016 QBs are off the board, maybe we can salvage something there. At WR, I don't think it's a wasted scholarship. At QB, I do. You don't have to agree with me.
