I like the idea of a ranking based more on talent and performance. While the AP poll is focused on wins and losses out of necessity, it tends to do a poor job of actually telling us how good a team is, rather than how smart their AD was in making the schedule.

As for the ranking...in terms of performance and ability it is dead on. I think that we would be a great match for any team in the 15-30 range.

Keep losing and we'll be #1? No just kidding. I think being ranked and not beating anyone yet is a little premature. However, I like that the national media is seeing us as a power again. I think after we beat Florida we will be in the top 25 in most polls, but if not just keep winning and it will take care of itself.

They have Arkansas at 10. Speechless.

CBJ is not the only HC in America allowed to rebuild a program ! If you haven't noticed the Hogs, then that's an issue. CBB is building a juggernaut of a running game that will be mixed with Play-action passing, (remind you of a certain team from the 90's)
couple that with great defensive recruiting and they will be a force in the West.
We will see it up close the next 2 years I think ?:hi:

You can lose to the #1 team by a point and drop out of the rankings. Its really dumb.

Although I applaud the thinking, I think you still have to somewhat go on wins. Sure ,Arkansas gave Auburn a good game and also played LSU close, in the first half, but they lost. I agree that UT is only three or four plays from being 3-1 and in first place in the East, but THOSE plays are what are separating us from the top. Lets just take care of Florida next week and go from there.
Hopefully we will have Josh Smith and Saulsberry back and hopefully see the speed and quickness of Derrell Scott to compliment the power of Hurd. It's going to happen!GBO.:dance2:

I think we'll have to win out to be 10-20 on the AP poll. If we win out and lose the one to bama then I think we have a tiny chance to be in the 20's.

That doesn't seem right. If we win out, we will have 2 losses, and will have beaten 3 ranked teams, and one team that started the season pretty high in the polls. We will also have likely won the SEC east. If we win everything but Alabama we will still have won 9 games, and will have beaten 2 top 25 teams and a third that, again, was ranked highly not too long ago. And, we will have a non-negligible shot at winning the SEC east.

The option where we win out should have us ranked in the 7-12 range. The option where we lose to Alabama and win the rest should leave us in the 15-20 range. And, if we play a close game against them we could be a couple of spots higher - depending on how the rest of the season pans out. After all, 2 three loss teams finished in the top 15 last year, and I doubt either of them played a more difficult schedule than ours this year.

If you were ranking teams solely on a predictive scale, essentially who would beat everyone below them greater than 50% of the time on a neutral field, every SEC team except Vandy and Kentucky should be in your top 30.

They're getting things turned around nicely over there. Not a fan of Big 10 Bret, but that running game is for real. Both Collins and Williams are beasts and among the league leaders in rushing. Arky gave Texas A&M everything it wanted yesterday in taking them to OT.

Well he better get some wideouts like quick. It was a shame in OT they COULDNT advance the ball by stretching the field. A strong run game is great but it'll get you beat in games like Saturday by itself..,,

We would be 4-0 w/ Notre Dame's schedule: Rice (H), Purdue (H), Michigan (H), Syracuse (@ NJ).
