Movies you've seen recently II

I've actually been to that particular res twice. It does show a pretty accurate picture. Also a few of the residents appeared just as Caucasian as me. I don't know what the percentage of genetic makeup has to be to qualify as a "Native American". I enjoyed the movie, and I would have enjoyed it just as much if a quality actor of darker skin color had been cast in that role.

It is amusing to me that the actress cast as Natalie, the actual native girl that's killed in the movie...is an Asian American named Kelsey Chow...that is ironic isn't it Huff? I guess Hollywood hypocricy knows no bounds.

I know I'm not very much (Alaskan Native), but enough to get paid

The problem is I know Renner is white and his character is supposed to be white, so the fact that light-skinned natives exist does not matter.

As for the girl being Asian, I was fooled. The hypocrisy I am pointing out isn't really about giving jobs to the wrong race of actors, it's about making the hero a white guy when it seems out of place...like in La La Land, where a white guy saves Jazz from black people selling it out.

Hollywood does this all the time and then they preach to us about cultural appropriation.

Fun fact in the same vein in which you are speaking: Mila Kunis couldn't get a role as a Ukrainian because she looks Mexican, despite being Ukrainian.

Look dude I loved the movie and could not care any less if the Wyoming Fish and Wildlife guy in the movie is white or not. Wyoming is about 90% white I believe. IIRC in the movie Renner had lost a daughter with his Native American wife earlier who had been best friends with Natalie. I get what you are saying. It is what it is.

I don't really think Renner being cast is "white washing"; he was playing a Fish and Wildlife Agent. I mean yeah I'm sure some would complain but there will always be someone who complains about everything. To me "white washing" is when they cast a white actor for role that is supposed to be another race; i.e. if this were based on a specific true story and the agent was a Native American then they cast Renner, ok, you have a case.

I, Tonya

5/5

I don’t give this for many films, but this film had my attention the whole way. Margot Robbie and Allison Janey were perfect fits for each role as daughter and mother. I really felt empathy for Tonya Harding at the end. Whether she knew of something or not will never be solved. The Nancy Kerrigan scene is pretty good too.

Saw Jumanji 2 today with my 9 year old.

I’d give it 7/10. Not a bad movie. Some of the humor was borderline for kids IMO. Didn’t realize it was PG-13 until after.

Wind River- 7/10. Really good movie. Casting a white guy as the hero really made the movie imo😁.

* sorry Huff, just poking

Mayhem 8.6423/10

A sad story about corporate greed, and how CEOs use others as fall guys. Based in a law firm Steven Yeun, is made to take the fall on a deal gone bad and fired.

Ok who cares about that, there is a virus that makes people lose all moral inhibitions that gets into a law firms building. They get quarantined inside and a fun blood filled thrill ride ensues. Its basically "Office Space" if instead of of seeing a shrink, Peter just took a bunch of bath salts to work gave everyone some, and they just started ripping each other to shreads. Yeun is fantastic, and Samara Weaving (The Baby Sitter) makes a fantastic lunatic. Really fun movie.
