Movies you've seen recently II

Like Me. 5/10. The Doom Generation except using Facebook Live.

Wind River. 8.65/10. Another vote up. Terrific postmodern western.

The Autopsy of Jane Doe. 6.85/10. Creepy as hell and well done.

Den of Thieves. 5.35/10. Heat knock-off better than Domino, Smokin’ Aces, etc.

Forever My Girl. 3/10. Uncomfortable gorefest about cannibalism, necrophilia, relationships, and country music.

I really liked Smokin Aces.

Been wanting to see Jan Doe.

I will find Den of Thieves and report back.

Den of Theives may not be the best movie but I liked most of the actors and found it entertaining. Very Heat like without the 2 icons but still pretty decent.

Again not to hijack, but this is where my parents live. Ulysses is the county above them, and it’s worse up there. The main road to my parents is covered here, they’re up high thankfully, but trapped. Just worried about Ulysses cause of how bad it is where he lives. These people could use some prayers if you pray.

I'm sorry I didn't answer sooner. I hadn't been in this thread till just now. We are blessed it wasn't just a little worse. A young couple with 3 kids that belong to my congregation almost lost their home, but the waters stopped just short. If it had rained that hard for any longer it would have been a disaster for sure.

I appreciate your thoughts, my nerves were definitely shot for a while. We live on a ridge so we were not in any danger personally, but we had several folks down closer to the rivers, including the couple I mentioned, they were in a low spot down by Dayhoit. They ended up being the only ones in eminent danger, but I hope we don't get anymore big rains like that this spring. Martins Fork lake is completely full and the ground is saturated.

It was the first time they had to close the flood gates in 25 years...whew 🤤

Enjoyable and often funny Rom-Com. I hope Netflix does a few more like this, my wife loves them, and I hate paying theater prices to watch them.

Glad you’re okay man, I know it was rough for a couple of days!

IT (2017)
7/10

A decent serious Rated R Horror movie reboot.

A predictable scare happens because a kid looks at a creepy painting that not shocking becomes alive because Pennywise the dancing clown a shapeshifter that can take the form of your worst fears.

If the painting wasn't shown at all it be a surprise when a terrifying figure is shown.
Also I did want to see more of Pennywise as the giant clown.

Likabile believable characters for the Losers Club including Bill that wants to find his younger brother Georgie and where the creature moved him to which is the heroes quest or primary objective.
Beverly a girl that has a sexual abusive dad is the only girl in the losers club also rumors she is promiscuous which is why she is ostracized by others.
Similar to a nightmare on elm street they find out the same creature is terrorizing them.

Set in Summer 1989 it's believable because a Arcade building meaning has the arcade machines, A kid has a mullet, the clothes, and WB advertising 2 great movies they released summer 1989 because on a common movie theater board is 2 movies Lethal Weapon 2, and Batman it's in the background but still noticeable.

The bully has friends and I thought he was another Clarence Boddicker psychopath until it was shown he's a bully because his dad is a jerkass that demeans and bullies him even if I recall right shoots a gun in the same area as him.

Pennywise has a great unique look, and is a terrifying Villain since similar to Freddy Krueger he has power because fear from humans which is why he can shapeshift into persons worst fears, also claws, amd has rows of sharp teeth, and claws.
Also he does sever Georgie and no doubt violently murder him, and has kidnapped more than a dozen kids.

Terrific climax with the kids fighting Pennywise in his Underground lair, and is defeated along with the losers club discovered the creature gets power from fear of humans, which is why he retreats except no doubt not dead because that would make the sequel nonsensical with no Pennywise to fight for the main characters.
Also Bill does accept Georgie is dead.

Great ending that isn't the overused jump scare instead it's all the kids make a blood oath to return to Derry as Adults to kill the creature if the creature returns which makes it obvious a sequel, also Bill kisses Beverly.

Halloween (1978)
10/10

A terrific horror masterpiece slasher movie which is why never should have been remade.

If a movie is 10/10 for me it's because it is a great or terrific movie, no boring parts, is a masterpiece or could be argued is a masterpiece.
The first 2 are required if I rate a movie 10/10.

A masterpiece movie is as close to perfect for a movie so be aware if I rate a movie 10/10 that doesn't mean it's perfect.

The worst things about this movie is Laurie repeats the same mistake of dropping a weapon, and turns her back with Michael Myers behind her.
Michael Myers missing stabbing Laurie is unbelievable because she didn't know he was behind her.
Also the neighbors ignore her when she runs for help.

It is a great movie a masterpiece slasher movie.
It has a great opening the pov of Michael that kills his sister, and it's unknown why 6 year old Michael Myers did this.
The closest to a explanation is provided by Dr.Loomis talking about him.
It has a terrific unforgettable theme, a straight forward story which is Michael Myers after escaping from a Sanatarium, and returns to Haddonfield Illinois to kill other victims.
Likabile characters including Laurie a sweet girl that babysits kids, and Doctor Loomis that does what is right pursue Michael and kill him since he knows how dangerous he is.

A great build up for not seeing the full adult Michael Myers that stalks his prey, and proves to be a great villain he does murder persons no problem, Laurie is a challenge and is able to protect the kids even with the Michael that proves relentless to murder Laurie because he survives multiple stabbings which don't kill him.
A exception for show don't tell with Doctor Loomis giving a explanation for why Michael Myers is a remorseless murderer.

Great climax with Doctor Loomis and Michael Myers, briefly shown adult Michael Myers no mask, and Loomis is able to defeat Michael by shooting him multiple times and he falls out off the 2nd floor of a House, and a brilliant ending which is Michael Myers isn't on the ground when Loomis looks a 2nd time Michael is gone no longer on the ground, and unknown why exactly which is a great intentional unanswered question.

The Shape of Water
10/10

A great serious science fiction drama movie about a amphibian creature, and a masterpiece directed by Del Toro that easily could have been a laughable awful movie which is why I won't be surprised if it wins a oscar for best director.

A movie that proves something new can be created from something existing.

Great special effects when the amphibian creature uses his powers bright lights are shown on his body.

It's a serious fish out water story that easily could have been a laughable awful movie which is why I'll be surprised if it doesn't win multiple academy awards including best director.

A terrific movie set in Baltimore during the Cold War. Cars, clothes, tvs, etc it's all has that recognizable 1960s look during that time because it is set in the year 1962.

The amphibian humanoid creature is a likable good character in this science fiction drama movie.
Great actng from everyone including Doug Jones as the amphibian creature.

Elisa secretly sees the amphibian creature befriends him by giving him food, also educates him mostly using sign language.
This is a serious movie but still has light hearted scenes but not overdone.

Likable believable characters
Giles a Gay Struggling advertising illustrator that can't get his past job which is heartbreaking, likely realozed his own prejudice because the owner of a restaurant refused service to African Americans which he hated and he is banned from the restaurant after rebuking the owner, no doubt realized his own similar error after that because not accepting the amphibian creature as a person and refusing to help Elisa.
That's why he changes his mind tells Elisa he'll help her rescue the amphibian creature, and that she is his only friend.

Zelda her coworker also friend and interpreter. Both are janitors that work at a Government building,

Elisa a mute woman explained why in the movie, uses sign language is a friend of the amphibian creature and changes to she loves him which is why they make love.
Robert Hoffstetler a moral scientist that is a secret Soviet spy. He did attempt to persuade not to visect the amphibian creature.

Giles also watches the amphibian creature, and isn't mad at the amphibian creature that hate 1 of his cats because he knows how powerful the amphibian creature is but also because has other cats, and knows he is learning.
The amphibian creature is shown playing with cats which is great and heart warming which was needed because it was after his big mistake eating a cat.

Elisa and Giles along with Robert are able to save the amphibian creature also Zelda that is hesitant to join for understandable reasons the whole it's illegal and big consequences if caught, but still helps after seeing the futility because Elisa will not relent or give up.

Robert Hoffstetler a moral scientist is a secret Soviet spy, and since the Soviets don't want the USA to have advantages he is ordered to kill the amphibian creature.
He refuses, along with saving the creature with others has a high price for him.

Believable Villains the Soviets want the Amphibian creature killed so the USA has 0 advantages, also General Hoyt that wants to exploit the creature for possible advantages in the Space Race and Strickland has no problem with that.
Strickland has to find the amphibian creature in 36 hours or he'll be fired.

Using touch and concentration the creature can fastly heal wounds for humans, and naturally regrow hair because Giles woke up and had noticeable hair regrown.
So logical if he was worshipped as a God in the Amazon Jungle.

Most likely Strickland and Robert never discovered this if he did then most likely no orders to kill and visect the amphibian creature to be used as advantages for the Space Race.
Less is more how Strickland lost his fingers is never shown only the bloody result.
Possibly the amphibian creature used his claws to cut his fingers off. Almost endless possibilities for how Strickland lost his fingers.

Great climax with Strickland chasing to capture the amphibian creature, and the amphibian creature saying good bye to Elisa and Giles finding out she won't be going with him.
Strickland shoots the creature and Elisa, except the creature using Elisa with body contact is able to heal himself, and brutally kills Strickland which is terrific becaise he repeatedly was cruel to the amphibian creature.
Strickland is a Charismatic Great Villain 1 you love to hate.

The amphibian creature grabs Elisa and jumps in the water before the Baltimore Police can capture the amphibian creature.

Get Out
9/10

It returned to a local amc theater and I saw it Thursday night February 8, 2018.

A great horror thriller movie with a likable hero, a likable supporting character the Hero's friend, unexpected twists, and a exciting great climax.

Rose and her boyfriend Chris visit her parents, and it's a nightmare for Chris.

Chris takes a picture of Logan, he responded hysterically yelling to Chris Get Out which is logical since he knows about the illegal buisness, Dean explains he had a epileptic seizure which Chris doesn't believe because he's seen epileptic seizures, also what he said to him along with finding out he and other black men were missing since Rod used the picture finding out information about Logan using the Internet finding out that Logan is the missing person Andre Hayworth.

This persuades or convinces him to leave along with Rose.

Plausible The Police don't get involved when Rod talks to them because Logan that was missing isn't missing, also wearing different style clothes not unusual because married to a older white woman.
Also even though Chris hasn't returned when he said he was going to he can't be a missing person since it's known he's visiting his Girlfriend's parents.

Likable characters Chris a main character that has good manners, and is a professional photographer also has a dog.
Rod Williams his friend a TSA Agent, comic relief that watches his dog during the weekend, and did drive to the Mansion to drive him home.

Terrific twists Chris sees pictures of Rose with other black men so she lied about Chris is her 1st black boyfriend, also she is involved in the Illegal buisness because she's the bait which isn't foreseeable before the reveal.

Also logical Georgina didn't want Chris taking a picture of her head while moving her wig because he could see the physical mark on her head, and would ask her about why she has the mark or maybe conclude some kind of surgery and ask about what surgery she had which is a brain transplant.

The illegal buisness is terrifying it's brains of white people transferred into black persons which is a way to become young again also remove any major health problems.
The consciousness of the host is in the sunken place watches and powerless which is also terrifying and awful.
A weakness if exposed to a a phone flash the host isn't powerless or is control.

It's the kind of disturbing twisted science similar to Frankenstein or The Island of Doctor Moreau.

The sunken place is a void that is terrifying and awful which is mostly darkness, and a rectangle that the person can see persons, areas, etc.

It's never explained how Rod found Chris maybe he found a way to get information about his cellphone, or found the address using the Internet when searching Rose's parents, etc.
He could have found information from the Logan picture.
He's a TSA Agent so it's plausible that he found Chris.

Roman he would obtain sight or vision, and Chris's artistic talents because his brain was going to be transfered into Chris.
He says when he lost his sight so impressive even though he is a unlikable character still sympathetic since he's been blind most of his life, and it was utterly out of his control for how he lost his sight.

Great exciting climax Chris is able to prevent the surgrery, kill most of Rose's family including the mother which is in response because he was prevented from leaving by Rose and her family.

The Ritual - 5/10

Netflix original. It was creepy and I was into it at first, but then the "monster" completely disinterested me.

The Dark Tower .00000000001/10. Just horrible. Its not just that it didn't do the books justice. It was just poorly done from start to finish.
