I hate when yall do this!!I am very happy for ZZ, but man I still feel like Mashack is the most under-appreciated defender nationally in quite some time. Sure, he got the Field of 68 NDPOY, but he deserves more recognition than just a single outlet honoring him. He’s probably one of the best defenders to never win a single conference or national DPOY award, IMO.
Wade Taylor IV shouldn't be first team...
14th in PPG
4th in APG
81st in RPG
23rd in SPG
I think Tre Johnson (who lead SEC in PPG) should have been there instead. Could also argue Murray-Boyles from South Carolina was more deserving. Seems more like they wanted 1 from each of the top 5 teams and that is why he was there.
Also not sure these 2 should have been 3rd team.
Mark Mitchell averaged 14.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1 steal and 1 block
Chad Baker-Mazara averaged 12.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.2 spg, 0.6 block
Asa Newell scored more PPG and more rebounds than both. Or could have went with Fears who scored more per game than both adding over 4 rebounds and assists per game too with 1.5 steals a game as well.
That's my only gripes though really.
One thing we know for certain, on our team it’s Mashack who draws the other teams best offensive wing player most every game. If a 4 is killing us like Brakefield did, we ended up trying Mashack on him. Zeigler is excellent, but it’s mostly against other point guards or he sags down to disrupt. Mashack guards 1-4 and occasionally will go against a 5. I recall last year Barnes trying Mashack on Edey a series or 2. We’re fortunate to have 2 outstanding defensive players, but there is an argument to be made for both guys as to who’s the best defender. Mashack is just as good defender as ZZ! Post like this creates division! This is a DEFENSIVE team! Any of these guys can win defense awards! When one win, they all win. Let’s congratulate ZZ for his achievements and Mashack for his without bringing up what the other one did!
They BOTH work hard! Both underdogs!!

Because you did it under a post that SPECIFICALLY celebrated ZZ!!You’re overreacting. How is noting that Mashack is an under-appreciated defender NATIONALLY in any way creating division on the team or the fanbase? It’s by no means an insult to ZZ to point that out.

Perception is everything! I’m not overreacting, you’re childish!! If the post is about Mashack, then speak n praise him on his specific post, but why bring up Mashack, give ZZ backhand compliments, while also questioning ZZ hard work…
Grow up!!!
First off, I’m aware of the original post is about, and I can still question why you asked the things you asked.First off, this is not a thread specific to Zakai Zeigler, it’s a thread about all of the announced SEC Regular Season Awards.
Second, I would love to know how you jumped to the conclusion that I’m questioning how hard of a worker ZZ is by saying that Mashack may be one of the best defenders to never win a DPOY award. I think you’re going to have a hard time drawing a link between those two points if you have any intellectual honesty.
Third, absolutely no one other than you is taking offense to me pointing out Mashack’s under-appreciation by the national/regional awards bodies. So maybe you should do some reflection here about who is being childish. It’s not me.
If he were 6'8", he would get drafted and play in the league. He'll still get a FA deal for an effort and can probably play in the G league if he wishesIf Mashack was 6'8" he wouldn't be under-appreciated at all. Versatility for days and a motor that simple doesn't quit. Like Barnes said in his post-game for South Carolina, it's rare you get a player like that and he's been blessed to have 2 of them on the same team.
This place is such a joke sometimes.First off, this is not a thread specific to Zakai Zeigler, it’s a thread about all of the announced SEC Regular Season Awards.

I believe they do but you can't vote for your own player..
That person is 100% someone who wandered here from one of the Vol FB groups lol the responses to you read exactly like the posts there. When you think VN is bad, go over there sometime, those are some WEIRD groups.First off, this is not a thread specific to Zakai Zeigler, it’s a thread about all of the announced SEC Regular Season Awards.
