Surprised there wasn't a thread about this already. Looks like we added some high quality "support" staff in Seth Littrell on the O side and Alan Willams on the D side. It certainly doesn't look like it was a good situation in Chicago when he stepped down but hopefully those issues are in the past. I don't mind being a place running the coaching rehab like Saban did if it gets really good coaches for cheap.

From FanrunRadio's Matt Graham:

The Tennessee Volunteers football team has added another experienced coach to its analyst department.

Veteran coach Alan Williams, who is bringing over 20 years of coaching experience, joins the staff in a support role. Williams began his career at his alma mater, The College of William & Mary, where he played wide receiver alongside Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and Bills head coach Sean McDermott.

He started coaching as a running backs coach in 1996 before making the jump to the NFL in 2001, landing a role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Tony Dungy. He later followed Dungy to the Indianapolis Colts, serving as defensive backs coach during their Super Bowl winning season with VFL Peyton Manning.

Williams went on to lead defenses as a coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings and most recently the Chicago Bears in 2022, before stepping away from coaching in 2023 due to personal health and family reasons. He joins the Volunteers as the third analyst hire this offseason, following the additions of Evan Crabtree and John Bonamego.

With Williams’ expertise in defensive backs, he brings valuable insight to a secondary that has already taken some hits this offseason, including the recent departure of starter Ricky Gibson to the transfer portal. His experience should provide a much needed boost to Tennessee’s defensive staff as they look to rebuild and strengthen the unit heading into next season.

Was reading an article about these analyst. The growing trend now is more college teams are turning to analyst as they are limited to how many asst coaches you can have but apparently no limit on analyst. So you can get a top notch coach and just call him an analyst. Not sure how all this works out on the staff.

Not thrilled with the Alan Williams pickup…being a Bears fan. It was never fully revealed what caused him to be catapulted out of Halas Hall overnight. But rumors (reliable standbys) indicated it was sexual harassment up to stalking.

No way. I’m never suspicious when people say they’re “taking a step back for their health and family “.

So, off topic, but, maybe applicable as far as analysis goes, I wonder if anyone has begun to train an AI assistant for football. I hope we are grooming an AI assistant because I believe it will become a thing in the future.

They actually just changed the rule where you can have unlimited on field coaches now. The only limits in place are for recruiting.

It was a public article on a public domain commonly referred to as “The internet”. If I want to be sarcastically suspicious then that’s the benefit of being a grown tax paying adult.

For sure, like others use their analytical skills to determine agenda driven integrity issues with posters who conveniently use the internet as sources of information without validating.

That’s an awful lot of big words for someone who was “keeping receipts “ in the Sanders thread and was “going to go back and own anyone who made negative comments about the rumors around the OSU visit “. Maybe you should get on that first and get back to us.

Holy shït. We hired the guy who caused the FBI to raid the Bears.
You don't check into coaches rehab if you are being "a great guy".
It is a great move for a lot of reasons to take good coaches with clipped wings, and ease them back into coaches that can be trusted with a big time job again.

I think Bama's coaching rehab was a huge success for them. Let's become the destination for the worst of the best.

How does reviving orhers words with a reply not fall in line with avoiding the risk of not validating facts before hitting the post button if you don’t want to see them again?

Problem is, this guy was by no stretch of the imagination ever among the best of anything. He wasn’t even one of the two best future coaches on the college team he played for. Likely a nothing hire that won’t hurt anything, but no one is gonna think we are giving Saban a run for his rehab money with this move.

You don't feel good about getting a NFL DC with league ties for little money who is looking to improve his reputation.
I suspect prospects will feel differently than you do.

I think it’s whatever. I really doubt prospects are flocking to play for Alan Williams though. Most have never heard of him, and if they have, it was because he got fired in a storm of controversy.
