If Barnes were to retire…

I've felt it in my gut all week. I think most think he is searching for the legacy defining final 4 appearance but this win would over our biggest rival when we are projected to lose would be a legacy defining moment. I mean it wouldn't get much bigger than this. Even if he lost in the elite 8 this would be a heck of a way to go out. The only thing at this point that would signify his return to mewould be if the Brayden Burries kid committed to us, I doubt he'd not return to coach a kid of that high of a profile.

I mean, they weren’t firing him. But Cal was tired of the expectations and didn’t want to be fired eventually. He definitely was the one that jumped because the Tyson founder is someone he has a relationship with.
I don't think there is any question that Cal and Tyson talked about the job. Then , according to most who cover them, he went to UK hoping they would sweeten the pot NIL- wise. Anyone that knows how Cal operates doesn't have a hard time believing he initiated it, or at the least, was open when Tyson called. He's even discussed it. So Kentucky didn't run him off, as they made the decision to not fire him, but it was also clear he'd work out his welcome. I think his plan was to make UK admin and fans realize how lucky they were to have him , and he's staying at UK, but he quickly realized they were good with him going. He overplayed his hand and went to Arkansas, but I think it's clear he preferred to stay out, he just wanted the pressure and griping to ease up. Kentucky absolutely didn't "run him off", but they were also more than happy that he gave them an out. Worked out for all involved, so far.

To add to your argument. People would be interested to know The AD that hired Pearl at Auburn was also on NCAA infraction committee that hammered Pearl. I always thought that was shady because the question was when his show cause ended could a school afford to take a chance on Pearl because if something happens they would get slammed by the NCAA. This AD hires Pearl so to me I feel like he helped squash us and sneak Pearl in the back door at Auburn.
I'm not sure Jay Jacobs is savvy enough for all that.

I’ll say first he’s not all that proven, so everything I’m about to say can point back to that, however…

-He led Arkansas State to their winningest 2 year stretch in program history, and in just his first 2 seasons, didn’t need a rebuild year or 2, walked in and immediately won more than they ever have.

-Young guy who on the recruiting trail is known nationally as being arguably the best and most feared recruiter as an assistant on the trail, this is a guy you’d love Trippie, he’s going to get players and please the star gazers.

-He’s young, 37 to be exact, he would be hired on at an age very similar to Todd Golden when Florida hired him. Similarly those 2 guys had very similar resumes, Golden had just 3 years at SF before Florida made the move to hire him.

-He runs an exciting style of play, having been an assistant for nearly 10 years under Nate Oats it’s a style that very much mirrors his, lots of rim & threes in their offense, new age modern basketball. It’s a style that the casual fan likes and that packs an arena.

-Not that this means anything in the basketball world, other than the whole he can recruit thing, but he has a strong argument for the hottest WAG in all of college basketball as well.

I didn’t see the wife guys….im all in
It would’ve been a bit of a reach to hire him this year if you’re White, but at the same time most hires are going to be risks and if you like a guy you probably have to reach a bit. If I’m White, or any other HM AD who had him on their radar I love that he took the USF job, that should be a job you can take him from next year or the year after without much issue if he’s successful. At the same time it’s a step up in competition and should allow you to get a much better read on whether you think he will or won’t be successful.

I do absolutely love the fact that he signed the #38 class while being at Ark St.

That’s actually really impressive.

From the sound of it... when you think of a coach that Danny has typically hired... Hodgson checks almost all of the boxes that he likes. The question will be will the timing ever be right? If CRB retires this year then the answer will be no since he just accepted a new job. Ideally CRB stays around another year or two and we get to see if Hodgson can continue having success at a new school.

If we have to make a move this year it almost seems a sure thing we go interim route and then do a search for next year, imo at least. When you look around 5-6 of the hot MM names now have new jobs and the pool of which to choose from has greatly decreased.
