If Barnes were to retire…

Whoever replaces Barnes is gonna be

-age 50 or younger
-A mid-major coach with a high win percentage
-High paced ideals with an innovate offense
-Low maintenance

If anyone else mentions somebody without those four qualifiers, they’re talking out their ass

I agree. With that being said, DW swung for the fences with James Franklin before going the route of a young, innovative offensive minded football coach. Hard for me to imagine that he doesn’t take a swing or two at a big name (probably resulting in “thanks but no thanks”) before defaulting to the criteria you mentioned. Shaka Smart and Brad Underwood make sense as “big names” that might get a call. Maybe Mark Byington. None of those three are likely to say yes, of course.

A couple of other names ...

Pat Kelsey, Louisville HC. He is the ACC COY after taking over a Louisville program that won 8 games the year before and took them to the ACC Championship game with a 27-8 record this year.

Chris Beard at Ole Miss is kinda appealing as well after taking Texas Tech to the title game and holding his own at Ole Miss in the SEC. Defensive minded coach like Barnes who can recruit as well.

TN isn’t hiring a coach with a DV arrest on his résumé.

No one without deep ties to Tennessee is even considering leaving Louisville for TN. Louisville is a top ten job in the country.

I know some want Pearl to replace Barnes, and he does seem to have a great love of Tennessee (begging us to root for him tonight) but that betrayal to Auburn would be worse than Kiffin going to USC.

He’d be an amazing hire but I don’t see it at all. He’s been in the Midwest his whole career and has a great thing going at Creighton. But crazier things have happened, I guess.

Personally, I want us to go for Ben McCollum, Bucky McMillian, Ryan Odom, Alan Huss, Niko Medved, or Tony Skinn. Would love to see us send an offer to Chris Jans as well.
As a Colorado State Alum and parent of a current UT student, if we were to lose Medved it would make me very happy to see him in Knoxville. Dude can flat out coach and develop players.

I’ve been a fan of him for a while now. He’s a really solid coach, and I think he has the chops to kill it here. I’d certainly prefer somebody like McMillian, but Medved is one of the best non-power coaches in the league and I’d be very happy to give him a spin.
