Or we are taking a similar approach as some others and allocating majority of funds to the portal…not saying it’s this clear cut, but if I was to say you can have Nate Ament and essentially LM bench type portal players, or you can have say Gillespie, White, Freeman and Alvaro from the portal for a similar total dollar amount which are you taking?I’m just going to assume that the uncertainty around Barnes combined with the lack of a top tier NIL (I know we won’t overpay, not saying we should) is killing our high school recruiting. It really seems we should have more momentum with top-end high school talent than we have these past few years.
I think for school like Tennessee that has to be judicious with NIL especially in basketball this is a smart approach. Lottery level high school players are already on fast track to make millions and naturally going to cost that much as freshmen.Or we are taking a similar approach as some others and allocating majority of funds to the portal…not saying it’s this clear cut, but if I was to say you can have Nate Ament and essentially LM bench type portal players, or you can have say Gillespie, White, Freeman and Alvaro from the portal for a similar total dollar amount which are you taking?
Obviously the Evans, Brown & Henderson’s aren’t free, but they’re much cheaper than a high end unproven HS kid, so maybe the strategy is get those guys in for a year and then you decide if they’re worth further investment in a year or 2.
Anyone but White plsssssssss for the love of godOr we are taking a similar approach as some others and allocating majority of funds to the portal…not saying it’s this clear cut, but if I was to say you can have Nate Ament and essentially LM bench type portal players, or you can have say Gillespie, White, Freeman and Alvaro from the portal for a similar total dollar amount which are you taking?

You also have to consider what is Tennessee’s hit rate on those Top 10 guys? Seems like every time we’ve landed a five star we talk about how disappointing they are, Barnes is tough on them and so their success rate is going to be lower here, are they worth that $$$ when a veteran guy is likely to produce at a higher rate and be ready for that coaching?I think for school like Tennessee that has to be judicious with NIL especially in basketball this is a smart approach.
