If Barnes were to retire…

The individual that accused Beard of domestic Violence was his fiancee. She changed her story when she figured out her Cash Cow may lose his job.

Then Beard broke up with her when he got the Mississippi job.

I've felt it in my gut all week. I think most think he is searching for the legacy defining final 4 appearance but this win would over our biggest rival when we are projected to lose would be a legacy defining moment. I mean it wouldn't get much bigger than this. Even if he lost in the elite 8 this would be a heck of a way to go out. The only thing at this point that would signify his return to mewould be if the Brayden Burries kid committed to us, I doubt he'd not return to coach a kid of that high of a profile.
Do you not understand a betting line or.......

I mean, I get you're a troll but this is idiotic

AJ Johnson says hello.

Not discounting CB's accuser, but there are examples that aren't true as well.

What about the Duke lacrosse team? She told the truth too right....

They aren’t. But employers still can do their due diligence and not hire an individual because of it.

Also very true. Up to the employer. Wouldn’t blame anyone from shying away from hiring someone with those sort of allegations hanging over their head. Also wouldn’t blame someone for hiring the individual if they’ve done their homework and feel comfortable with doing so.

Barnes pretty much just cleared the air on his retirement.

Stated he believes God will make it very clear when it’s his time to step down and that time is not now.

About as cut and dry as it’s gonna get and if it comes out of Barnes’ mouth you can pretty much take it to the bank.

To be fair, it’s a response but not a very illuminating one. God could tell him 6 weeks from now it’s the right time to retire. I read it mostly as a way to deflect any attention on that narrative before a big game considering the disaster going on over at Maryland.

Yes, a calculated response. People need to not take every clue and make it concrete evidence of anything. Until he says I'm 100% coaching next season, there should be skepticism. And even then, people change their minds.

I get what you all are saying and nothing is ever certain and sometimes coaches have to give certain answers because that’s the only answer that should be given in certain times especially before a big game in the tournament. It’s not concrete, no but there hasn’t been anything that shows this is his last year. Maybe that will change but we’ll see. All these guys leaving and it being ZZ’s and Mashack’s last year, it would make sense and wouldn’t be shocking. Time will tell.

Here is his full answer. It’s actually quite long and pretty interesting.

That one definitely sounds much more like he’ll be here next year, talking about building next years team and explicitly saying he plans to be a part of it.

It’s definitely more encouraging for sure. We’ll never know what goes on behind the scenes, but part of me wonders if he recognizes that jumping ship during this particular coaching carousel would be uniquely bad for the state of the program.

He’s dedicated a lot of his life to Tennessee, and I would imagine he wants the success to continue once he steps down so he probably wants to ensure the program is in as good of a position possible to continue the success.

you can think that, but the record of events and overall comments from those involved says otherwise.

Cal was so excited about the Arkansas job that not even his lifetime contract at Kentucky could keep him there… makes total sense. Quit huffing glue bro.
If he was so excited to go to Arkansas, then why did he come back to Lexington asking to keep his job at UK….all documented. The UK board of trustees said no.

It don’t matter how some of you try to make something out of NOTHING, the man said he’s not going anywhere no time soon!

And that’s that!

“I love coaching basketball,” Barnes said on Thursday. “I love being around it. I know right now how hard we’re working right now. We’ve already had a young man on campus after we got back Saturday, Sunday, we had a young man on campus that committed to us. We’re already planning to have a team next year. I fully plan to be a part of it.”

That’s exactly what it was. A lot like the “I’m the coach here and love my job” answer coaches give when rumors are swirling they’ve been offered another job.

All he said was he’s the coach and doing his job. Doing his job naturally includes preparing for next season. Folks (not you) I believe misinterpreted what he said pretty severely.

If he wanted to keep his job, that means he was losing / lost his job aka he was ran off. Which is exactly what I said was the case. Kentucky ran off Cal and thought their name alone could land any coach they laid their bullseye on.

Listen, I know all of you all are skeptical about Barnes retiring, but after his statement today I would highly doubt that happens next year. He has always been very candid and honest in his interviews, sometimes harshly, but I really think you can take him at his word. He never tip toes around things or sugar coats things, so I think you can believe him when he says he plans on being here at least another year.
