Yeah, I’m not naive enough to think what’s “fair” is where the market is headed. We’re without a doubt headed to an inflated market and until some actual guardrails are put in place (if they ever are) “NIL” AKA salaries are going to increase year-over-year.
It’s sad, because I do think this is going to harm the parity of the sport, particularly with the increase to 15 scholarships. I don’t think this year’s major dud of a tournament is a blip. I think this is the new standard and we’ve just reached the point where the sport is experiencing the realization of the portal era.
Teams are just going to stockpile talent with a 15-person roster now and the little guy, and even some lesser P4 programs, are going to have no chance.
Coexistence between players is one thing. The big unknown is how incoming players will adapt to the defensive demands and coaching style of Rick Barnes. I have to wonder if that's what led to Igor going off track? That plus the level of competition in the SEC makes me take a wait and see attitude with any and all incoming players under Barnes. Was just coming to post this. He also hinted that Gillespie may be willing to coexist. How he would know that...no idea. We've given the blueprint for how to PGs can coexist with Chandler and Zeigler, and to an extent, Bone and Turner. It's doable and we've shown it is, but it may be tough to convince JG that he'll get his time there. Gillespie, if he's an NBA prospect, isn't a 2G, so he needs to show his worth at the PG position. Now the kicker is that with the 5th year ruling, he could potentially have the spot all to himself the following year.
Cinderella will never make it through the door in the NIL era because of this too. Unregulated transfer of good players to rich schools will consolidate talent. Players were always getting payed, but now that it is above board and people "know" how much kids are really getting, the numbers are inflating in bidding wars.Yeah, I’m not naive enough to think what’s “fair” is where the market is headed. Bingo. Reading some very un basketball educated posts in here today. Our problem was never ZZ at point guard. Our problem was being about 2 scoring options shy. We have no inside scoring game and we have only 1 true outside scoring threat. If you are counting on you point guard to be your primary scorer, you should not plan on going far.
Bro no way he goes to Louisville…that’s just unacceptable from our staff if that happens
Fair enough that makes sense. They are an elite program and seem to put most of the resources intoI am not saying he is going to Louisville so don't take this the wrong way.
But I have some connections to the city of Louisville and the team. I've had former teammates play there. I've known and interacted with many former players, some in the NBA.
And I have connections with donors and big businesses in the city.
People underrate Louisville, but there is a LOT of money available to that program. I'd never say it is unacceptable if we can't compete from a money perspective.
