"Harris' agent commanded a $5 million asking price, sources told CBS Sports, making him one of the most expensive players in the sport. He boosts an already lavish roster. With Harris on board, Tennessee is projected to spend north of $15 million on players for the 2026-27 season, putting the Volunteers among the biggest buyers in college basketball."

We will have to see how it comes together this summer and early fall, that could cost us a few early games. But we look to have the talent to win 27+ games in the regular season. I normally figure we're going to be around 24-7, but 27-4ish (not sure how many we'll play yet) looks very possible, which would put us in 1 seed territory.

For comparison sake, how much did we actually spend last season? I've seen a range of $8k - $20k on various platforms. (edit: should be million, rather than thousand)

Probably $16k-$17k. We still have one more open spot and re-working another contract.

End of day - $18 million.

I posted in April Barnes would not lose a player over (only) money. I give him and his staff kudos as I’m sure it was difficult for him not to over pay for JP. And I’m very appreciative of Spyre and two donors who made this roster possible - esp. Haslam.

Hope it buys a championship.

You mean to tell me Kentucky spent 20m on a roster that barely got them inside the preseason top 10 and this roster which I've seen some call potentially top 5 in the country cost us 5 million less, even though the cost of players is only going up?

The math is wrong somewhere.
I’m guessing this roster will barely be in the top 10 in the preseason as well. Not that I agree but I’m guessing we will be ranked between 8-15 by the talking heads.

What will the return on investment be? I think that most would agree that anything less than a Final 4 appearance will be disappointing.

Barnes still has some open spots. If these guys can fill the basket like we think they can, this will be a fun team to watch. Barnes’ teams play tough, but can’t get points at crucial moments. Last year they owned the boards but they can’t get the ball to go in the basket. As others have said, the question will if and when they jell.
