I mean we’ve had a 12 team playoff for 2 years and now they want to expand againHow long will it stay at 24 before they will want to take it further. Thats the real question, it would be nice to have some stability. 8 or 16 is what most college football fans prefer, but to the movers and shakers looking at money over product IMHO. GBO
YEP. Especially when conferences got 16+ teams there are more than 2 teams that deserve to play a ship, in a conference that big. Might as well flip a coin.Conf title games serve little purpose.
They aren't used for determining who is in and who is out outside of the perfunctory Automatic bid. But that can be decided by regular season.
Eliminate it and force Notre Dame to join a Conference. There should be no independents.
I think there will be byes 1-8 and I also have heard that the format will also mean that teams 1-8 also get to host a home game at their stadium (which they should). The more college football on college campuses the better IMO. Hopefully they also do away with a committee, but I have my doubts.I mean we’ve had a 12 team playoff for 2 years and now they want to expand againstrictly a
grab.
24 you could have a bracket of 6 teams in 4 different regions, a Final Four idea for the winners of each “region”.2 seeds get byes (in this case
8 in the country). 9-24 play one weekend and then the idle teams play those winners (so on and so forth).
I thought 8 or 12 was fine, but they’re going to get the CFP expanded because there’s so much pressure now to win since it’ll be harder to do so.and

As a fan I prefer 8 but as a realist that isn’t going to happen. I don’t like teams getting a bye either. If they insist on more than 16, then go to 32 (which they will do eventually probably) and do away with conference championships. Make the championship game nearer to Jan 1st so the portal/transferring won’t be so rushed/hectic and will be more aligned with semester end/start.
They wouldnt be able to do 2 rounds of hosting because there are too many major bowls involved in the playoffs. 1 round is all we could get. The remaining rounds would have to go to the Cotton, Peach, Fiesta, Rose, Sugar, and Orange bowls. Plus the championship game.If they expand the playoff, the only way to end around Jan. 1 is to start in early August.
Listen, everyone with a clue understands that 8 was always the optimum number, but at this point just set it at 16, with the first two rounds being at campus sites, and have a final four at bowl sites.
But since logic and what's best for the sport are irrelevant to the powers that be, it will go to 24 and then 32, as you said, and probably beyond that, because greed begets more greed. By that time CFB will fully and officially be a professional minor league anyway.
From what I hear, they’re going to try and get teams 1-8 to host a game. That definitely needs to happenThey wouldnt be able to do 2 rounds of hosting because there are too many major bowls involved in the playoffs. 1 round is all we could get. The remaining rounds would have to go to the Cotton, Peach, Fiesta, Rose, Sugar, and Orange bowls. Plus the championship game.
I would expect the opposite of that to occur. There’s going to be more content to consume and potentially a greater number of networks involved . I heard a rumor going around that CBS could possibly lose the nfl in the next year due to a renegotiation. They could have some extra $$ floating around .Can we also shorten the number and length of TV timeouts?
