Grimmer, Wright, Ford, Arvidson, and Marin are most likely all gone via draft. Lawless is eligible but I think he stays. Jared G is a top 15 pick so he never makes it to UT except to visit Trent.

I didn’t see Grimmer or Marin in the Top 200 draft prospects. Not sure if they are listed on Baseball America Top 500.

Mack
App
Trent
Clark
proven players who return
Brown needs to show more consistency

I hope we hit the portal hard and our top incoming FR class has most of them making it to campus
I really like Haas (LHP) think he makes a big jump next year
And Estes the (LHP) from Arkansas who redshirted should help

A healthy Estes could absolutely be huge for 2027.

Wasn't they a high profile shortstop freshman on the team that waited his time this year? What about newstrom, is he a portal hit?

2027 - I think this just as important a line up question as the on the field teammates.
Hitting coach (replace)
Pitching coach (replace)
Head coach no change in 2027 (last chance though)

We won’t replace the hitting coach, that’s one of Elanders best friends and he’s been the hitting coach at FL for years, he has a track record of being successful.

Pitching coach on the other hand…who knows

Vols need lots of portal help in the infield, a couple of big bats, and pitching. If season started tomorrow, I’m guessing it would be something along lines of:

1B. Clark/Lawless
2B
SS
3B
C. Grindlinger/Lawless/Clark
LF Brown
CF Abernathy
RF Eisfelder
DH Lawless
SP1 Appenzeller
SP2 Mack
SP3
Relief Haas, Estes, Abraham

Do you think Brown and Abernathy can hit to be an everyday starter? Or do we take an OF in the portal?

Which high school commits are likely to get drafted?

Grindlinger (ranked #18) is a goner unless he just wanted to play with his brother. We can hope. At MLB.com they have prospect draft rankings (LINK) have Condon at 22, Koeninger at 98, Dunlap at 112, & Morse at 137. They rate college eligible and HS up to #200. Per always, it depends on what the individual asking prices and desires are. Some would rather develop in college and some want to take the money. Who knows. I wish there was better recruiting info on baseball players. Other than the elite level that rarely make it to campus, there isn't much out there on them.

I think TN def takes an outfielder in the portal. I’m optimistic that both Brown and Abernathy take big jumps next season. They have too much talent and upside but need another offseason for development.

You always have to be concerned with anyone in top 200–especially top 100 but sometimes demands are too high and college coaching, development, and full scholarships make college more appealing than ever. If they are solely looking at $$$, colleges can’t compete with MLB signing bonuses for early rounders. I don’t think we see Jared Grindlinger or Condon make it to campus.

Brown looks like a guy that has zero coaching on plate approach. He’d do well to sit out the summer leagues and work with a good hitting coach, like Burke did.

Has a lot of JHay in his swing, Has trouble getting to the tight pitches which speeds him up. At this point he is who he is, not sure how much you can revamp his swing

It's actually more than that. McCarthy 78, Sullivan 83, Dugan 106, Putnam 134. Draft could kill us.

It just depends on the kid and how much they are asking.

We’ve gotten extremely lucky the last couple years getting guys like Appenzeller/Grindlinger/Kuhns/Clark to campus. Heck, even Ford we got extremely lucky.

At some point when you recruit the highly rated guys like we do, the draft will hurt you
