To me the best name has hardly been mentioned. I am personally tired of the national search for the next would be or has been coach. I really want to restore TN pride in the way only an Alumni understands. No matter how some may feel towards Fulmer Era John was winning SEC awards till the end. Went to LSU and without dropping a beat built one of the most physical stingy defenses around. Chavis has the aggressive swagger from all his Defences he's proven in SEC and he knows all the opposition and their quirks and staff intimately. I don't care what he said in his soul he bleeds Orange. He also knows his limitations, he get a good offensive coordinator and let them roll, but he woul restore discipline and Tennessee tradition and wouldn't need a learning curve for Tennessee Volunteers smash mouth SEC ball. He needs to be considered.

Sure looked stingy Saturday when they gave up 35 points to a talentless Ole Miss team....

Chavis has proven himself as an abled recruiter, inspired and cultivated our best defenses since the General, and he knows his opponents. I think he has all the characteristics of a head coach. What he's a defensive coord and stoic? That hasn't hurt Saban too much. He's instant credability, and he loves UT and I really do think the Alumni aspect means something, you can't fake that, you're either a Vol or your not. While Gruden is a great coach I don't know that he would be successful at collegiate level. NFL is a different animal. Cultivating talant is what college football is about and in the SEC defense rules. Can anyone doubt we would not have a restored aggressive defense under John? For that matter keep Chaney another year he hasn't been the problem...... Or blow our wadd on some nfl personality who hasn't proven Anything on the college level in SEC...... You want the UT that got respect ans showed discipline? Bring life long Vol John Chavis home. End this roulette of expensive personalities with no SEC substance ...

Plus as an added bonus might finally lift the karmic Fulmer curse. Which this entire organization deserves.

There is reason for Chavis staying DC like he has been most of his career.Don't get me wrong he was great 95% of the time he was here but,he hated recruiting and now he is somewhere he has to do zero recruiting and it works well for him.I'm sure he still loves the time he spent here but,his new job makes his life easy.

A Case for John Chavis?

What kind does he drink?

I'll buy the Chief plenty of colds ones, but I don't want him back.

He's moved on and so shall we.

As has been said, Chavis is not seeking out and not interested in a head coaching position. Even if he was, Chavis is not a good recruiter.

Not an option.

I like Chavis, but not as HFC for Tennessee.

Maybe we will, maybe we won't but, regardless speculation does nothing. When a coach is hired we all might be happy he has "Tennessee" ties or we will all hope he learns well the tradition this place holds.

PS-sorry meant to quote Fury's(always been a comic collector so like the name) previous post about not a having UT blood.

Name one successful program in the SEC over the last 10 years where the HC had the university "in his blood"?

Ah the vaunted Fulmer curse. Incidently, the curse began when Fulmer himself began to slip into mediocrity. But we must now pay for our sins of reacting to that slide.

Chavis is not interested in returning to Knoxville. He has nothing but love for our university, but he has been directly quoted as saying he would not return to the Vols. He was deeply hurt by the dismissal.

LSU’s defensive coordinator John Chavis hopes not, at least on his end. Chavis has been the man behind the Tigers’ stifling defense this season, and it sounds like he’ll be sticking around. According to Knoxville radio show host and reporter Jimmy Hyams, Chavis turned down a chance, and $1 million, to return to Tennessee as the defensive coordinator again after he wasn’t retained as part of Phillip Fulmer‘s firing in 2008.

“I won’t ever forget,” Chavis said Thursday. “Loyalty is supposed to be a two-way street. That’s one of the lessons I learned at Tennessee. It isn’t always like that.

“I learned that it doesn’t matter where you are or what you’ve done, sometimes you’re nothing but a commodity in this business. When you’re hot, they want you. When you’re not, they don’t. Those were some of the lessons I learned. I’m blessed to be at LSU, and I’m staying here.”

He doesnt want the responsibility of being a head coach and for good reason. Plus he hates to recruit and isnt very good at it. No, No, No
