2013 TN PG Darius Thompson

What are the reason's, other than grades, that he wouldnt come. I have read other posters mentioning this...

I'm not sure of his reasons honestly. BTO might be a better source of info for this.

However, physical maturity, skill-development, and a chance to be noticed on a bigger stage are other reasons some players choose to attend a year at prep school.

Again, I'm not sure what Landry's reason would be, or if the rumor is even true. I think BTO said he had heard the rumor, but not from anyone he would consider solid. It may all be much ado about nothing.

If there is room, UT should take Thompson in my opinion. Golden only has one more year left and, even though he has been up and down, he has been pretty solid and we don't have an established PG to take over. Landry could be very good. Thompson could be very good. It doesn't hurt to have multiple ballhandlers. Thompson may end up sliding over to SG with his height to put two ballhandlers on the floor. In addition, if Hubbs is actually a one and done player, we could use some additional depth, etc. All in all, if Thompson is a player, I say get him.

That's the rub. There isn't room right now. To add another player to this class would mean parting ways with someone currently on scholarship, a guy who has signed a LOI, or Stokes going pro.

Wonder what the chances of a Reese or Edwards transferring would be? Like both kids, but with incoming talent and current lack of minutes, I could be both wanting to go somewhere else. just a thought...

The thing about it is we will have room it is just a matter if you want to waste a scholly on a kid this year or save it till next.Below is a current breakdown of the roster

Again, if I was Martin, I'd be done for 2013, give Landry a shot to win the backup PG. If not, give it to Hubbs/McRae and go with that. Martin has basically five guaranteed spots through the 1-3 spots (Golden, McRae, Richardson, Hubbs, Moore) and either Reese or Chevious can play the 3 if you want to go deep.

Adding Thompson gives stability going forward, you don't wanna sign 6 or 7 guys in a class, too many.

Adding Thompson also makes you feel better about PG, Golden has a lapse again and it may not result in a losing streak.

Indications are, we're done for 2013.
I'd judge Landry by his BJ days and the career move to Huntington a mistake.

What indications say this?

That Martin spent ALOT of time at thompsons school, offered him, and has stayed in contact daily until he got a decommitment from him?

I'm not sure what you copy/pasting a roster is supposed to tell me.

There are 3 guys leaving the program at seasons end that are on scholarship. McBee,Miller, and Hall. There are 3 guys signed in this class, Landry, Davis, and Hubbs. Tennessee currently has 13 (the max) players on scholarship.

13-3+3= NO ROOM.

Someone would have to leave early (transfer or go pro) or not come despite having already signed a LOI.

New Article up on TOS if anyone cares to summarize :hi:

Had second thoughts about Vanderbilt because of Johnson and how he wants to play sooner rather than later. Tennessee, Auburn, and Texas A&M are the only ones recruiting him as a point guard in college. Won't name Tennessee as the leader but really likes CCM and respects him as a coach and a person. Said he likes how CCM gets his players to play hard and respect him.

This is what was said.......govols247.com (@govols247) tweeted at 0:02 PM on Wed, Feb 20, 2013:
Vols make it known they won't recruit hoops G Darius Thompson unless he decommits from Vandy. Then he decommits. Make of that what you will.

I didn't realize the scholarship numbers were so tight. If Landry isn't coming--for whatever reason--we should take Thompson. If Landry is coming, I don't like pulling the Saban move and cutting players whom are already on the team and I guess we shouldn't pursue Thompson. CCM created this situation in my mind by taking flyers on some players who aren't really upper level SEC players in previous classes. All that being said, these numbers situations somehow work themselves out with transfers, etc., though I really hope they aren't forced transfers.

We took Moore with no open spots didn't we? I don't recall the exact timing.

Not what it said.....Martin said he wouldn't recruit him while he was committed to Vandy....And he decommitted

Lmao why does Martin lie about that...it's a very well known fact Martin talked to Thompson and his father almost daily since his commitment to Vandy.

Perhaps that's what they talked about? How Martin would love to have him, but he wouldn't actively pursue him unless he showed a genuine interest in Tennessee by opening his recruitment up.

Just a thought...and he could just be flat out lying.

I really didn't mind CCM taking flyers his first year because he needed bodies. A flyer on Miller was just a two year investment. Probably the one mistake was on Edwards. He is a 2 year player at a position that we didn't need. You can play McRae, Richardson, Reese, and even Moore at the same spot. Just diodn't make sense taking a JUCO guy there.

It shows Moore committed on 3/20/12, which happens to be the day after we lost to MTSU. I am guessing that they had already spoken to Washpun and knew that he was leaving. Thus, they took Moore's commitment as soon as possible.

Good upgrade. :good!:

Who says any of the 3 guys has to leave to make room?? Tennessee does have scholarships in other things available right? I'm just saying
