Even if we roll into the tourney as a 12 seed it's assumed we can't fire Zo. My question to those with that perspective is...Why? What makes you say that?

Just want to understand the viewpoint here. Are you taking the perspective that if we just slide in the tourney as a play in game Zo deserves more time because:

1- You think Zo has earned more time and is truly the answer for Vols basketball and will have us going to the tourney year after year?

OR

2- Do you just think that way because we'll be killed in the media and no catch worth having will take the job if we fire a coach that just made the tourney?

I'm not asking you to get inside Hart's mindset. I'm just curious what those that think a tourney appearance automatically should mean that a coach stays on. Satisfied with Zo or just worried what others will think.

1.6 mil buyout, I think he stays, but maybe Hart will see its middle of the road and won't get better

I've actually said the best case scenario is for Martin to make the dance and move on after the season, so I don't guess I'm in the group you're calling.

I will say this however, in the coaching fraternity CCM is thought of pretty highly. His peers think he's a great guy, and a solid coach, and that he's doing a decent job given the hand he was dealt. So I think if you fire the guy after making the dance, you're sending off a message to other candidates that just making the dance isn't enough, you've gotta advance consistently.

Now there's nothing wrong with that mindset or requirement, by when you're gonna go bargain shopping for coaches you're likely not gonna find someone in our price range that thinks those requirements are fair.

Didn't stop them from firing Jerry Green. But CCM isn't going to be a total embarrassment outside the gym.

Obviously the season has to play out, but it's hard to not be extremely disappointed by this team. One week they can beat someone by 20, and then the next go 2-26 shooting.

CCM is a great guy. On that we can all agree. But I know a lot of great guys who I don't want coaching my team. Dragging it out another year is a mistake, but I am convinced he is the coach in 14-15. He is unlikely to merit a raise or extension, and he will be losing a ton off this roster.

It's unfortunate because McRae is the best scorer UT has had since Loften. And I don't even watch the games anymore. It's an awful product, regardless of individual performances.

I for one did not think CM was a good hire from day one but I do not he gets fired either way. I just think the buy out is to big and next year will be the senior season for his first class.

But next season there will be no excuses make the tourney or hit the road.

If his contract is up next year. Then he gets an extention this off season. Look at the history of this athletic department. They don't make smart decisions often.

I think it is mostly #2. The stated goal coming in to the season was make the tourney....not 7 seed or better. We would look pretty bad all around with potential coaches if we fire him after making it. On the other hand (in fantasy land), if we have Pearl in pocket and are willing to hire him...I say it doesn't matter. However, the odds of that happening are about the same as me being the next HBC at UT.

I am 100 percent certain we will not fire him if he makes the tourney no matter if we are the last team in. I agree he is not the right coach for Tennessee we need someone with the personality of Pearl because people will follow and support a person like that even if we had the same record that we have right now.

They will not terminate his contract if he makes the tourney - nor should they. The buy out drops in half after the 4th season. The drop off next season with a team that will be lucky to win half their games will eliminate any questions and any holdovers in the 'think he should stay crowd'.

UT never goes after a high profile coach in basketball, and rarely in football. So any new coach they hire will need several years to rebuild the roster. Get ready for more of the trend down/rebuild crap that you are used to as a Vol fan.

There is no odds. Pearl is not coming back.

They wouldn't fire him because he overachieved the first two years. If we make the tourney this year he will be meeting expectations. We were not a top 25 team but everyone knows we are supposed to go to the dance. They won't fire a coach who did better than expected or what was expected every year.

Now the fans want someone who does above and beyond expectations. But the adminsitration will be happy with someone who is winning games and does what is expected. At least for a few more years.

I said before the year that if Martin couldn't comfortably make the tournament with this roster, Tennessee needed to cut bait and move on. This is as talented a team as historically it's ever been possible to have at Tennessee. There's no excuse for us to still be sitting there on the bubble again this year. If we sneak in as an 11 seed at the last minute it won't change my opinion at all.

I would rather be hated by the coaching fraternity.....it means they are afraid of you.

I don't think he will get the job done here but if he makes the tourney then he earns another yr to try and grow as a coach and recruiter...if he makes it next yr too then my faith in him will start growing.
