NCAA Game Thread: (1) Texas vs (5) Lady Vols

You make a fair point. But I think you have to use the "eye test" and other factors to evaluate this year's team. To me, though, it's still an open question as to whether Kim's system, as is, will take the Lady Vols all the way to where they want to go.

    2025 Transfer Portal

The present portal transfer system and NIL rules may prove not to be sustainable. Future NCAA and conference actions may considerably tame the wild-west scenario we have now. Smart coaches will keep their recruiting, player development and rosters balanced to be prepared for whatever comes.

    2025 Transfer Portal

Hope this helps... The race and gender of a team's coach can affect their recruiting. If a player wants, say, a male or black head coach and wants to play in the SEC that player's choices might be limited. There are other personal factors about a coach that might also affect a player's...

    2025 Transfer Portal

Kids are learning how to use the portal as a negotiating tool. Can't blame them. But I'm reminded of an old "Seinfeld" episode in which Jerry, a Mets fan, was bemoaning that because of trades and free agentry he didn't know the players on his favorite team any more except by the uniforms they...

    Juju

Glad to see that Maple raised the possibility that JuJu's injury last night could have been related to her earlier ankle injury on Saturday. I feel the same way. After watching JuJu suffering what appeared to be a fairly significant ankle twist I was surprised to see her listed as "probable"...

    Juju

JuJu has one aspect of marketability that Clark didn't have: playing in a major sports and television market. It's the same element that mkaes UConn's stars a little brighter -- not that they don't deserve it. All you have to do is look at the headlines this morning and the openings of the major...

    Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Wisconsin hasn't had a winning season in 15 years. Talk about low expectations! I'm thinking Robin might have had this job in her pocket before she "resigned" from Mizzou. Wisconsin really has nothing to lose with this hire. She's a good coach, always popular with her players. Just probably not...

Fudd will be the designated UConn star next year along with Strong. She'll do just fine stepping out of Page's shadow.

2025 NCAA WBB Tournament non LV games and news

A great achievement. But, of course, for 17 of those years a team only had to win one game to reach the Sweet 16 since there were only 32 teams in the Tourney.

NCAA Tournament Game Thread - (4) Ohio State vs (5) Lady Vols

Nice win. And here's an interesting note: I believe this was the Lady Vols first road win against a Top 35 AP team this year. (If I am wrong, I'm sure some one will correct me.)

    Kellie Harper to Missouri

Staying over .500 overall won't be too hard with Mizzou's relatively weak out-of-conference schedule. Staying over .500 in the SEC will be extremely difficult. (Even the Top 20 Lady Vols couldn't do it this year.) Pingeton did it three times in the last ten years but her overall SEC...

    Kellie Harper to Missouri

It's rare that a coaching change doesn't result in a few exits. I'm not sure about Brown's status due to the NCAA rules change re JC play and that would be a big loss. There are several international players on the roster and several players that got very few minutes of PT who may decide to...

    Tennessee Lady Vol News

Pingeton left Mizzou with a .534 winning percentage. She survived there for 15 years. The previous coach (Cindy Stein) had a .511 win percentage and coached there for 12 years. The program's first NCAA coach was Joann Rutherford who had a .617 win percentage and coached at Mizzou for 23 years...

    Kellie Harper to Missouri

Harper should do well at Mizzou. The fans will embrace her. She's a players' coach and that's what they're used to. High School recruiting in Missouri is tough, even with the proximity to KC and St. Louis. The Cunningham sisters were an outlier. If there's some NIL money the portal should...
