“Everything School” or Elite Football School?

Personally, would like to see some extra funds put into football to help potentially get the Vols a Natty. Once that is accomplished, let’s spread that money back out to be an everything school and win Nattys across all major sports.

We won a national championship in your lifetime. Al Wilson went 45-4 with 2 consecutive SEC Championships and a national championship. That’s pretty elite. Saban never had fewer than 4 losses in 4 years, nor have Kirby or Spurrier. Kirby has never won the SEC in back to back years. Spurrier never went undefeated.
I stick by what I said.

It’s an incredibly relevant and interesting question. If you operate under the premise that there is a finite pool of money available to pay athletes, by definition if you are giving $.01 to any other sport than football, you’re hurting football. Personally, I don’t see any reason for any sport that doesn’t generate positive revenue to receive any university NIL other than what a student athlete has historically received. If a student athlete can truly make money off of their NIL (like the gymnast from LSU), so be it. That’s what NIL is supposed to mean anyway.

I've been following the Vols since the 1960's. We have never been Elite in football in my lifetime. The last 4 years Tony V has come close to it in baseball.
If 2 regular season SEC Championships, 2 SECT Championships, 3 CWS appearances, and 1 national championship over a 4 year period is considered “close to elite” in the toughest conference in America then maybe you just shouldn’t watch sports since nobody meets your lofty expectations. Tony V is elite. Not close, he IS elite and he doesn’t need anyone’s validation. It’s fans with this mindset that drag our athletic programs down and none of them need you or your unrealistic expectations.

gotta be honest with you, I know more people of other teams and even other fans I meet all over the country really only care about football, which kind of makes me more invested in it so I can trash talk and brag haha

If we win in other sports, I love it and I'm always happy and excited for it.

But when we win in football, it feels like my life has purpose again and everything is actually right with the world...
People are missing out. College baseball is one of a kind.

A lotof you really worry me with your modern day way of thinking . Of course you want to be an elite football school when it involves sports, because that is where all the real money is made.

I hope to see some of you come to your senses and change your vote to what is right! Make TN Vols Football great again!

Are we considered elite in football? In my life time, 1 football, 1 baseball, 8 WB, 0 MB National Championships. I rather be an everything school, but that’s got to include National Championships.

After being a sports fan for over 50 years now, I've come to the conclusion that just being in the hunt for a championship is where most of the fun is. Actually winning a championship is rare. So I prefer to be excited about watching 35-40 Vol games in basketball, and 50 plus games in baseball rather than pinning all my hopes on about 8 meaningful games in football.

True that nothing can top a championship in football, but I just know I've been a happier Vol fan over the past 5 years because of our success in the other major sports.

Close to it
2022 and 2024 finished in the top 10. That’s pretty close.

My opinion:
We need to make the playoffs 3 years in a row. Michigan did that, won a national championship and I still wouldn’t agree that they’re elite.

Georgia, Alabama, and Ohio State are the only undisputed elite teams. Oregon, Texas, and Michigan are really close. Tennessee is in the mix with Penn State, LSU, Clemson, and Notre Dame (We could add 6-10 other teams to that list with controversy).

It feels odd grouping Clemson and LSU with TN and Penn State, but they are trending down.

I'd rather have everything.

As a long time Vol who remembers back when it was football and that was about it (yes the Lady Vols but the game wasn't nearly as watched as now), honestly between football seasons sucked. Doug Dickey didn't care about anything but football. And even though football was really the only focus it's not like we were elite; we weren't tripping over all the SEC and National Championships.

I love being able to trash talk and look foreward to Vol sports from late August through June.

I think of elite as being in the NC talk for several years in a row at least and winning more than 1. I don't think we're elite and I Think we have a ways to go. I mean if Michigan isn't we sure as hell aren't. I wouldn't put Oregon in that category, they need to win an NC first.

You don't know me!!! I'm the biggest supporter of Tony V!!! I think he is our best coach at Tennessee. I said the baseball team has been the closest to elite and I stand by that! Elite means something different to people. It's fans like you, that likes to think you know it all. I've always been a Vol, I don't need your approval. Have a good day

Went with Elite Football School but frankly we have been so down in Football for so long while our rivals have been winning National Titles that it is probably impacted my decision.

I would be ecstatic to make a run like Alabama did with Saban and would trade falling off the map in the other sports to do that.
